Strengths: 1 button recording, fast responses, smart display, easy to follow setups, up to 100x fast fwd or rev, time slips,16 show timer. Records DVD-R, DVD-RW or DVD-RAM up to 12hrs. Perfect picture & audio.
Weaknesses: none (so far)
Summary: Being a gadget freak, I researched & tried every make & model DVDR I could find at local stores on on the web. Actually took home & tried the Cyberhome and Emerson. Cyberhome froze after recording (had to turn unit off and on from the stupidly placed power switch on the back). Finally got it to playback a recorded Tv show. Picture was slightly better than a VCR tape, audio was terrible! Just glancing through the complicated Emerson manual was enough to warrant return.Almost spent $500+ on the Panasonic 85, until I found the Samsung 4000. I got the last one at R.C. Willeys on close-out at $242. Their loss, my gain! Plugged it in, tossed in a cheapie 80cent DVD-R blank, pushed Record. Clicked stop from remote after 20 min. Cool read indicator on front panel scanned the disk and allowed me to play in about 5 seconds. Picture & sound are so good, i can't tell it from live broadcast. Adjustable fast fwd, commercial skip, time slips, all worke flawlessly. VCR+ will make it a breeze to program tv shows AND this unit has double the capacity of most other units. You can set it to record up to 16 shows (other units allow only 8). From my research, no other DVDR under $350 even comes close.
