Good product for kids, or casual usage
Strengths: Small size/light-3 ounces, nice looking, many cool functions, 4MB Image resolution, Movie with audio, software included, TV out, JPEG format storage, 1.5LCD
Weaknesses: No lens cover, 5 second processing time between shooting, poor image quality with dim light, No optical zoom (4X digital zoom)
Summary: 2005-11-29 16:44:32 I have used this camera for 5 days and it worked great - if pictures were taken with bright light, and also with steady holding. I bought it on thanksgiving BF, and it cost me about $40 after MIR, plus tax and stamps, etc. I bought this for my daughter, who is still under 10. She seems like it very much. The camera has lot of features - macro, LCD, movie, 4Mb sensor, Tv-out (with cable), USB2 connection to computers (you do not have to install driver with XP - it will show up as a removable drive), etc. The LCD menu and other controls are very straightforward - i can use most of them without reading manuals. The TVout cable and USB2 cable are together - so you do not have to storage two cables. After connecting it to my TV, the pics I took displayed in the TV - automatically adjusted to NTSC mode. This is a very cool feature. I have owned a Fuji Finefix 1400 for 3 years, also used a Cannon 300D for a while, though picture quality of DXG could not compare to the other two, I must admit the features it offered could compare to Cannon300.
However, this camera does have a lot of things you may not like (consider this is a camera under $70, I can live with them.), and some of them are real problems - the processing time between each shot is 5 seconds, approximately. It is really bad when you need to shot another pic while it still shows "processing" in its LCD. Second, you have to hold it steady while you take a picture, otherwise the pic will be fuzzy (very picky - comparing with my old FUJI). Third, there is no lens cover - it really surprised me. So be prepared to clean it after you get it back from your kid. The last major problem with me is battery life - the 2 AAAs came with the set was used up after about 30 pics. And I found rechargable works better, probably can double the number of pics you can take. Yes, flash will use a "lot" battery, and it also will take one or two second to load.
For a point and shot class DC, under $70, I would recommend this camera, if you are not serious with the picture quality, or buy it for kids.
