3 Star ReviewCompaq R4000 Notebook
Strengths: Price is good. Can be customized.
Weaknesses: Fairly large and heavy. Battery life could be better.
Summary: This notebook is fairly large and heavy. It is about 2 inches thick and weighs about 10lbs. If you aren't that concerned with size though and/or need a big screen though, the R4000 might be a good deal. The price is definitely good, especially with the rebates that are sometimes offered. The notebook can be customized also, so you will only pay for the features that you need. I wouldn't spend the extra money for the Athlon 64 processor though, since HP probably won't release hardware drivers for Windows x64. The Sempron performance is good, but not outstanding. It definitely beats the Celeron notebooks. The R4000 works fine for ordinary office/internet use, but it probably wouldn't be sufficient for high end gaming, video editing, etc. The notebook does offer svideo tv out, an IEEE 1394 4 wire port, and a memory card reader, which is nice. If you are looking for a low priced full sized notebook, this will be fine, but if you demand the highest performance, or need long battery life, I would look elsewhere.

Strengths: big screen; no overheating; quiet
Weaknesses: heavy
Summary: this is a very nice laptop with amd cpu. no much noise compared with that of toshiba and also not hot even after long time running. but there is no free lunch for this: the design adds up weight to it for such performance. everything is good except for this.

Strengths: Excellent Large Screen, Good Speed, Wireless and all the goodies necessary to have fun
Weaknesses: Overall Size and weight, but that's about it......
Summary: I am very happy with what I got. It is not the top of the line, but I have many people that really love the color and clarity of the screen. I have been very happy with the performance so far.....

2 Star ReviewBuyer's Remorse
Strengths: Nice Big screen, lots of memory and RAM
Weaknesses: Heavy, computer freezes repeatedly, battery life short
Summary: In almost 6 months of owning this computer, have had to have it serviced twice, for a total of 4 weeks in the shop. Had to get the screen serviced the first time, and there was a software problem the second time (although the technician never really spelled out what was wrong with it). Computer disregards my mouse very often after reawakening (must resort to using finger pad). Computer freezes very often, and must restart. Am not at all pleased with this computer. Bought it too soon after it hit the market.

Strengths: 15.4 ins. ultrabrite widescreen, Looks rugged and durable, 4 USB, 1 Firewire, 5/1 memory card reader and on/off buttons for both wireless and touchpad, excellent price
Weaknesses: battery, keypad too upfront, loose RJ45 jack
Summary: 2006-04-11 11:18:34 I love this machine. I got it customized with everything included for a little more than a grand about 8 months ago (I am sure it is much cheaper now). It is around 8 lbs but I don't mind lugging it around in a good notebook backpack. Great for watching movies during travel or when I am at a faraway relative. It does everything I could have hoped for and more. Search the web for notebookanalysis/Compaq R4000 to find out many testimonials and useful information from hundreds of other satisfied owners of this particular machine. Much luck.
