Strengths: Good balance between realism and immediate playability
/ Wide selection of leagues and teams
/ Great renderings of stadiums and players
Weaknesses: The defensive AI could be improved, and control often doesn't shift to the expected defender
/ Even with multiple camera angles and zoom in/out, finding the right view is tough
Summary: Playable sims for rigid stop/start games with relatively scripted actions (like football), have been around for years. But simulating sports with a free flow of continuous action and less defined player roles (like soccer or basketball) seems like it must be more difficult. I've waited for years for a sim to pull it off, and this game exceeded my expectations in delivering. Combined with straightforward controls, FIFA offers decent realism with easy & fun playability right from the start. Your off the ball teammates don't always go where you want them to go, but they actually resemble real soccer players much of the time. Additionally, the game also offers some control of off the ball teammates, but I'm still too busy trying to master the basic controls to incorporate them. My wish list for future versions includes a stronger defense AI and more flexibility in setting up camera angles.
