3 Star ReviewD-Link 2-Port KVM Switch
Strengths: Hot-key switch is handy. Good cable length.
Weaknesses: Cannot be used as a video-monitor switch only.
Summary: The user-manual's instructions (i.e., plug in all the cables, turn on both computers, etc.) must be followed in setting up this KVM switch in order for it to work. I didn't do this at first try and left the keyboard/mouse cables unconnected, and as a result couldn't get the video signal to come through. So far this KVM switch appears to work reliably with standard wired keyboard & mouse, but the wireless keyboard & mouse would occasionally lock-up and require hotkey reset (scroll+scroll+M key sequence) to return to normal. I have not tried the user-manual's suggestion of switching to generic ps/2 driver as a fix for this problem as I dread losing advance features supported by the manufacturer's drivers.

Strengths: sturdy cords, keyboard shortcuts
Weaknesses: need "Select" button on both sides of switch
Summary: My DKVM-2K switch works correctly. The cords seem to be sturdily constructed. The video connectors (HD-15 analog) are thumbscrew-type. Mouse/keyboard connectors are PS/2. Switching is performed via a "Select" button on what D-Link calls the "front panel". (To me, it's the rear panel, since it's the side that sends the leads to the KVM devices. I place the switch so that the side that sends cables to the two PC's faces me -- I thus can't see the Select button.) I'm able to switch between PC's with keyboard shortcuts (two presses on the ScrollLock key followed by "1" or "2" on the numeric keypad) and this works well. The switch beeps when the hotkey combination is used. If only one PC is connected and the switch is made to the other (missing) PC, the DKVM-2K will return automatically to the connected PC.

Strengths: Cost, Ease of Setup, Keyboard Shortcuts
Weaknesses: Mouse will lock up occasionally
Summary: The setup for this KVM was extremely easy, just connect all the cables to each computer and hookup the keyboard, mouse and monitor and you're done. This item is a good value and easy enough for just about anyone to use. The mouse did lock up on me once, but I haven't had any issues other than that.

Strengths: The switch was easy to install, the hot keys always work, and at a fair price.
Weaknesses: Seams to only work when the refresh rates are set to 60 Hz.
Summary: Works well for the money but I would not recommend using this switch if the monitor is under florescent lights since refresh rates are set to 60 Hz.

3 Star ReviewGreat Switch after some tweaking
Strengths: Easy Plug-n-Play Installation
Weaknesses: A Few Errors in the intital setup
Summary: This switch does all it was intended to do. The installation was easy enough, simple plug-n-play application. Although I did run into a few glitches on the first couple of runs...

Apparently you can't switch while a computer is booting, you must wait untill you are fully logged into Windows otherwise windows has a hissy fit, and assumes there is no Keyboard/Mouse connected, and your SOL, you have to re-boot inorder to get it back up and running properly.

The HotKey's work great, and I have no complaints, just make sure you let windows boot on the current selected machine before you switch to the alternate machine.

Strengths: Super cheap. Easy to install and operate.
Weaknesses: Beeps when switching. Refresh rate seems to be fixed at 60Hz.
Summary: A nice little switch that does what it's supposed to. For the price, you can't go wrong. It can be controlled via keyboard or a small switch on the front. It makes a fairly loud beep when switching between computers though, which can get annoying.

If you're not familiar with D-link products, note that the case is just lightweight silver plastic and not metal. The weight of the cables is enough to keep it from even laying flat. The cables are also fixed to the unit; some might see that as a downside, but you can always buy extensions if necessary.

Strengths: The cables are quite long... about 5 feet and secure
Weaknesses: Only controled by keyboard (scroll - scroll - 1 or 2), and it beaps at me.
Summary: Works good with my lazer mouse that has a usb to ps2 connector. It is good being that I never have more than two PCs on my desk at one time. For the price you can't beat it. Just watch out because everything is switching from PS2 to usb now days, and I know the usb mouses will work with the converter but not sure about the keyboards.

Strengths: Switches very quickly and works reliably
Weaknesses: None
Summary: This is a great entry level KVM switch for connecting two computers to a single keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Mine works great with a wireless keyboard and mouse. For the price, you cannot go wrong.

Strengths: Built in cables, compact
Weaknesses: None that I could see
Summary: Got a good deal on this KVM switch and for the price, it does the job it is supposed to. No lag between moving my mouse or typing on the keyboard.

Strengths: Name Brand Cables Included
Weaknesses: Not USB for Keyboard and Mouse No DVI
Summary: This is a nice KVM Switch, from a good name brand company. This does its job and thats all i can ask. USB keyboard and mouse would be nice but ps/2 is fine. Overall a good product.

Strengths: Easy plug and play setup. Quick and simple switching. Integrated cables. Great Price!
Weaknesses: none really
Summary: This is a great little unit for switching between machines or displays!

It really cleaned up my desk!

Simply hit Scroll lock twice and the number 1 or 2 to switch. A low beep lets you know you struck the keys sufficiently and in a quick second or two you're on the other display.

Or, there is a small button on the front that you may click once to switch.

To me it is great that the cables are built in and I never have to worry about them getting seperated or disconnected.

This is one of the best deals I have ever seen on a quality switcher that works so well.

My first unit had a problem. I called d-link and got quick and friendly help. Apparently it had a manufacturing defect in a cable. I had a new replacement within 72 hrs.

Super good deal here!

Strengths: Cheap, very cheap... oh yeah, did I say cheap.
Weaknesses: None for the price
Summary: No complaints yet. I always have an extra PC project laying around and now I can easily access both without switching cables. Costs less than $5 after rebates. Great value.

Strengths: Easy installation and good price
Weaknesses: none so far
Summary: Easy installation and easy to use. It does what KVM switch suppose to do, it allows to me to use one set of

keyboard, mouse and monitor for two systems. If you need a simple KVM for a bargain price, get this one.

Strengths: Compact size Price Space saver No driver files requires
Weaknesses: Heavy cable weight
Summary: Great space saver.I have a desktop and a laptop and this one helps me to share a single monitor/keyboard/mouse. Easy switching between the devices. Also it doesn't require any driver files. Price is also cheap compared to similar products.

The box is light weight but the cables are little heavy. Other than that I don't see any other weaknesses.
