Strengths: Great graphics and Season Mode, Legends
Weaknesses: Just an update to previous Smackdown games
Summary: Here comes the Pian is the 3rd Smackdown game on the PS2. They just keep getting better with each passing year. This time, there is a Season Mode, where you help build your character up and take him through storylines just like in the WWE. Also, several Legends are included in this version including Sgt. Slaughter, The Million-Dollar Man, and Jimmy Snuka. A worthy addition to anyones growing wrestling library.

Strengths: new gameplay elements that add lots of depth; very strong roster of characters; great selection of match modes to choose from
Weaknesses: single-player story mode gets repetitive; game engine occasionally shows its age; no online
Summary: The fifth entry in the successful Smackdown series took several steps to improve the basic gameplay. The grappling system was overhauled, with a new two-stage grapple that expanded the available moves from 12 to 16. A new body damage system was implemented, which added a whole new layer of strategy. The old "block" move was re-mapped to separate strike and grapple reversal buttons, again moving the series away from button mashing and more towards strategic fighting.
Add this to Smackdown's usual huge selection of match modes, and you have one of the best WWE games ever made. Matches are no longer a "race to a finisher" - you now have to work a specific area of the body if you want to win. For example, a superkick won't do you any good if the opponent's head is still fresh. With this mechanic in place, matches have potential to become real epic back-and-forth affairs.
This was an amazing wrestling game for its time. Even now, in many ways it surpasses its 2004 sequel "Smackdown vs. RAW." A worthy edition to any WWE fan's game collection.

Strengths: This is an Awesome game. Two thumbs up!!! It has alot of new features that make the game more fun to play. Additional characters, types of matches, moves, combos and greater interactivity.
Weaknesses: The graphics are very nice, but they can still be improved. However, they are top rank in comparison to other wrestling games out now.
Summary: 2004-07-27 18:06:50 I have been a wrestling fan for quite some time now; and I have to say this is a game you have got to buy !!! You can sit for hours on end playing this game, because time just flies by.

Strengths: +Deep roster
+Great storymode
+Variety of match types (Elimination chamber)
+backstage areas
+great create a wrestler
+good unlockables
Weaknesses: -Graphics
-No online play
-Too easy for veterans
Summary: To date, WWE Smackdown HCTP is the best WWE game on the PS2. Everything WWE Smackdown vs Raw messed up, WWE HCTP excels at, except for graphics. HCTP has a great large roster, and has an excellent story mode. The HCTP story mode is much more open ended which allows for alot more variety. HCTP story mode also keeps track of your win/lose record and belts won. The wrestling engine is also good in this game, opponents will not recover too quickly.
There aren't too many faults in this game. Graphics aren't the greatest, good but not great. Also if you've ever played a game from the Smackdown series you may find the gameplay too easy.
If you are in the market for a wrestling game, than look no further than WWE Smackdown Here Comes the Pain.

Strengths: Great new additions to previous versions
Weaknesses: graphics
Summary: Here Comes The Pain is definately the best in the series. The number of moves has improved, the grappling system has improved, the number of characters has been upped, the types of battles are great, and the battle system has been improved. Overall, things which were pretty good to begin with were improved to make them great. The only major downside is there isn't online play. That and the grahics could be a little better, although considering the improvements they did make, I think I can let it slide. A definate must buy for any wrestling fan!

Strengths: + deep grappling/fighting system for hardcore gamers
+ graphics are great compared to other wrestling games but just okay when compared to other games.
Weaknesses: - steep learning curve for beginners
Summary: If you've got a wrestling fan in the family, then Smackdown Here Comes the Pain should fulfill all their wrestling needs. Like other sports games, the roster is a bit dated today but overall not much has changed in terms of gameplay. Smackdown has almost all the different types of wrestling matches - steel cage, ladders matches, even female matches.
Looking for a cheap but great wrestling game, then look no further.

Strengths: + the character models are nicely done
+ deep grappling system
Weaknesses: - too many buttons to remember
- no announcers
Summary: If you're looking for a wrestling game Smackdown: Here comes the Pain is one of the best out there.
It has tons of characters with a few unlockable ones like the Demolition Men and the original Undertaker. It has a lot of different types of matches so it'll keep you entertained.
The only thing I didn't like about it was that for a beginner, the game was quite hard. The grappling system is very sophisticated and number of moves just overwhelmed me. Another thing that I would point out is that the graphics for the hair is poorly done. It doesn't flow like real hair but acts like folded pieces of paper. It's not an important factor but they really stick out like a sore thumb.

Strengths: Graphics, story mode, feels authentic, better roster then Smackdown vs. Raw.
Weaknesses: Clipping issues, no online play, a big over improvement over last year.
Summary: THQ has done a great job gradually improving the series. Smackdown has gradually gone from the loose arcade feel to a more responsive game with tight controls. Here Comes the Pain is the continuation of that evolution. All the great wrestlers are here and I would say it has a much better roster then the sequel (Smackdown versus Raw). Stone Cold and Goldberg are still in this game. Even if you own Smackdown versus Raw, there's still incentive to pick up this game. The game still retains that gameplay that's easy to pick up but takes a while to master. I wish they had included online play in this version but given that THQ had so much trouble implementing it in the latest Smackdown versus Raw, I can understand why it isn't featured here. Also the story line seems to be deeper in this game then the latest sequel because there are more branching off options. I think it'd be best to invest in this game, especially since it doesn't look like Goldberg is making a comeback anytime soon (unless THQ adds him as a Legend).

Strengths: Graphics; gameplay
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: Smackdown: Here comes the pain picks up where Smackdown: Shut your Mouth left us. The grappling system is much better than SYM and the career mode is much more advanced. The roster which includes Goldberg and Brock Lesner is the best of any video game ever.

Strengths: Great grabbling system and the collision dectection is great.
Weaknesses: Its a great wrestling game but its not Six man scramble.
Summary: WWE Smackdown! Here Comes the Pain for the PS2 is a fun game that presents itself to be a more of a soap opera then a wrestlign game. If you have seen the show you'll know what to expect; wacky stories and weird characters with a I hate story line. The graphics are nice but the voices and sound are a bit too weak from a THQ game. Overall I like the game but if still like my Sixman scramble wrestling compares to this.

Strengths: 3 on 3 matches!
Weaknesses: No 4 on 4 matches.
Summary: Lets start with the matche types. Ladder, Iron man, cage, 3-way, 4-way, 6-way, tag, table...and lets not forget the 'Bra and Panties' match type. Most matche type can be played with 4 and sometimes 6 players (Even having all in the ring) which makes this one of the rare multi-player gems out there today. The controls are good, the graphics great, and the replay value is, well, outstanding. The game has a create-a-character feature and even a create-a-taunt feature. This game will keep you playing till your thumbs are swollen. I deeply recommend this game to anyone interested in a great, fun multi-player slugfest.
