1 Star ReviewNot worth the money for any purpose. BLECH!
Strengths: Digital decoder is included. 5.1 speakers.
Weaknesses: Sound quality is downright poor for the price. The digital decoder is NOT compatible with computer gaming. Serious hiss when no noise is playing.
Summary: I had the non-digital decoder version of this speaker setup and was given this setup as an insurance replacement. First, you need to know that I use my computer for MP3 listening and gaming. I don't watch DVDs on my computer (that's why I have a TV and home theater). The digital decoder is almost exclusively for those who intend to use these speakers to watch DVDs; it's not compatible with games.

What do I mean when I say that? I mean, if you play a game with the decoder in the system, you CANNOT play in 5.1 surround sound. The games do NOT recognize that you have 5.1 speakers and will only play with a left and right channel. TERRIBLE.

Next, the sound quality of the speakers is awful. I've been using these for a couple of years and the sheer amount of HISS when there is NO sound is apalling (on the bright side, the hiss hasn't gotten worse; it's just as bad now as it was when they were brand-new).

Finally, the clarity and crispness of the sound disappears very quickly when you turn the volume up "too loud" and let me tell you that there's a HUGE difference between what YOU'LL think is too loud and what the speakers think is too loud.

These speakers are really pathetic. I ended up pulling the decoder out of the circuit and using the new speakers with my old ones' volume control. And for the price? Well, the Creative ProGamer G500 and Logitech Z-5500 are not priced far enough away to justify these little crap-meisters.

My advice -- stay FAR away from this speaker setup, regardless of your intended use.
