Strengths: Ease of setup, stylish looks, wireless rear speakers.
Weaknesses: System not truely wireless.
Summary: 2006-01-04 10:13:47 Being a long loyal Sony customer I needed a new surround system to compliment my Mitsubishi 55" television. Looked at the Sony DAVFX80 first, but this had wires running from the rear speakers to the front.

Speaker system hookups are made by connecting the supplied speaker cords and matching the colors of the jacks to those of the cords. By following the speaker

and TV connections diagram, as well as the Operating Instructions, setup was done in less than an hour.

The player automatically detects the type of disc present in the slot-loading changer. The slot design is much sleeker than a carousel system.

The remote lets you to choice one of the system's preprogrammed sound fields. This allows any of 19 modes.

Your television can be played and the sound enjoyed thru all speakers of this system. Just remember to disable the television speakers.

Speakers can be either floor standing or mounted and add the stylish nature of the entire system. The rear speakers are wireless from the rear to the front but are wired in the rear to a surround amplifier.

Overall sound quality is impressive. This is especially true when watching DVD movies.

FM radio stations can be preset- up to 20.

At a little more than the Sony DAVFX80, this system is well worth it.

Strengths: Multi-disc player; HDMI output, wireless surround speakers
Weaknesses: Single optical audio input; no ability to output via HDMI or Component Video except on-board DVD signal; no powered subwoofer.
Summary: This unit offers nearly everything I need, and only once I got it home did I realize that I could not process the digital signal from my satellite receiver through the receiver's HDMI output (not a huge problem because you can link video directly to the monitor via s-video). An extra digital optical input would be great, however. The DVD video on my 52" 1080p TV(upconverted first by the Sony player to 720p/1080i and then by the TV to 1080p) is beautiful! Wish the speakers had a little broader sound (the wireless surround speakers work well), but this is home-theater-in-a-box, after all. For its category, the DAV-FX100W is swesome, but against some more sophisticated (and expensive) equipment, it is a little inflexible and underpowered. For our game room, it does the job nicely.

Strengths: Wireless rear speakers, HDMI, sleek looks
Weaknesses: Limited connectivity options, slow disc changing
Summary: It's about time that (relatively) affordable wireless home theater systems have started becoming available. As someone who's never been thrilled by running wires across the living room--or even worse, under carpet or through walls--to the rear speakers, this system really was a dream come true. I chose the Sony system over others on the market because it sends infrared rather than RF signals to the rear speakers. Other RF-wireless systems use the same crowded 2.4GHz frequency band shared by Wi-Fi networks, cordless telephones, and microwaves, so the IR technology really cuts down on interference if you (like me) have a wireless home network.

The sound from this setup is great for an HTIB, and I haven't noticed that the wireless aspect of the system degrades rear-speaker sound quality at all. Another reviewer complained about the low-end power (or lack thereof) of the non-powered subwoofer, but I've actually noticed the opposite--sometimes the bass actually seems a little *too* powerful.

My only two complaints aren't major and are to be expected, given the type of system this is. First, even though the system offers an HDMI output (quite rare among HTIB's, for the most part), it only offers two composite (yellow, red, white) A/V inputs. There are, however, both optical and coaxial digital audio inputs. Also, as another reviewer has noted, the slot-loading disc changer takes quite awhile to switch between discs, and the proper method for inserting and switching discs takes a little while to perfect. Overall, however, these are minor gripes which are to be expected from a "lifestyle"-type HTIB.

Strengths: Easy setup, rear wireless speakers, good full sound
Weaknesses: Not for audiophiles, bass settings non-existent
Summary: After doing some research on home theater setups, I stumbled upon this and decided to purchase one. I didn't want to endure the hassle of wires from the front to the rear speakers so this fit the bill. It took about 45 minutes to set it up and the instructions were easy to follow. The asthetics of this system I believe after putting together is truly top-notch. I have a silver TV so this matched it perfectly.

Performance-wise, this system did its job and more. The trebles were clean, and even though the bass settings could not be really altered, it gave a good deep sound. I did not get to try the HDMI connection since my TV doesn't have one, but the digital audio connection from my PS2 to the receiver was exceptional to say the least. I know that setting a home theater system's volume too high will lead to a hum or vibration, but mine never had this problem.

Another aspect of the system I liked was the wide variation of sound fields. The sound was ideal in each setting. The best use of this system's power in my opinion comes from watching DVD movies which affords the viewer a rich and immersive sound.

The only minor annoyance I had with the system was the slow DVD changing capabilities. It is not too bad, maybe an extra 5 seconds or so to have the next DVD or cd to load up.

I've had this system for about 4 months now and I'm lucky to say that I've got my money's worth on this.

Strengths: Wireless rear speakers, looks good, relatively inexpensive
Weaknesses: No HDMI or HDMI to DVI converter cables
Summary: I decided on this system after reviewing home theater systems from Bose, Panasonic, Pioneer, and a couple of others because it was wireless (rear only), relatively inexpensive and it looked good plus, for me, it complemented my Sony HDTV.

The assembly and setup is easy but for HDTV’s you will need to get a HDMI or HDMI to DVI converter cables to interface it to your TV since doesn’t come with either. It does have component video, S video and composite video if you need to go that route.

This isn’t an audiophile system but the sound is very good throughout the volume range and has a nice sound field selection feature that will fit most listening needs.

The disk changer is quite, seems fairly quick, and supports a wide range of formats.

For the price, this system has very good sound with some great features.
