Strengths: Perfect rice every time, lots of settings and rice types, timer, aesthetic design
Weaknesses: EXPENSIVE!
Summary: I love this thing. For years we've been using an old cheapo rice cooker - no frills whatsoever, not even an on/off switch (just plugged in or unplugged). Though cooking with that old thing was a bit of a developed skill and an art, the features of the modern cooker win by a mile. We decided to go all out and treat ourselves to the best - Zojirushi. Where do I begin? The taste is amazing, no matter what type of rice or setting you use. I can't believe I've been missing out on this for so long. It has three settings for normal rice - from soft to hard, and also special settings for brown rice and sushi rice. It even does oatmeals and porridge. All absolutely fantastic. Try setting the timer and having your hot breakfast waiting for you when you get up in the morning. I've tried them all so far except sushi rice...I feel like Willy Wonka in the glass elevator, waiting to push that last button. =) Oh, and this thing automatically goes into warming mode, and it can keep the rice warm literally ALL DAY at perfect consistency without drying out. This model also has an inner lid that you can remove to wash - a big plus to keep the unit clean and fresh (the lower tier of Zojirushi models lack this). It comes with a nice scoop and measuring cups as well. And the icing on the cake - superficially it's a beautiful design and looks great on the kitchen counter. The cute little tune letting you know the rice is done is also a nice touch (my fiancee loves it, but if it annoys you, sorry, but it can't be turned off). I knocked one star off just because of the price, though, which is a bit inflated for a rice cooker. This is the mid-range Zojirushi model. I got it because it has some extra settings over their standard line, like for brown rice and the removable lid. And I couldn't justify getting their top-tier induction model for even more. Still, this one was expensive. It's fantastic, and I can't praise it enough, but you might be able to get comparable results from other brands (Sanyo, perhaps?) at a fraction of the price. If you don't want to take that chance (I didn't), then you can't go wrong with Zojirushi.
