Strengths: Great looking, fast, and excellnt value for money. Very nice upgrade from my 8400.
Weaknesses: Dell loads a little too much software you do not need and it takes a bit of time to clean it up if you do not want it.
Summary: I just purchased the Dell Dimension 9100 to replace my 8400. The exact specifications for my computer were: 3.0 GHz 630 P4, 1GB DDR2 RAM, 160 GB SATA Hard Drive, 16X DVD-ROM, 16x DVD-RW, 128 MB X300 video card, Integrated 7.1 Audio, Windows XP Home, integrated network card. Very fast system.
The setup up was easy!!

Unreliable & slow
Strengths: Pretty case
Weaknesses: Restart the PC all the time to unfreeze it
Summary: 2005-11-03 06:01:33 According to Dell's website, 9100 is much faster than 5150, and is a high performance. However, my new PC (Dell 9100 2.8GHz, 512MB) is about 5% slower than my old PC(Dell 4600 2.8GHz, 256MB).
I got many blue screen errors, I have to call Dell tech to reset to their factory set. Then, the DVD drive sometimes just cannot read particular files on different CD/DVD, unless I restart the PC, then everything goes back to normal, and it will happen again who knows when.
While browseing Internet, at a certain stage, the Internet freezes, while other programs are still running, the only way to unfreeze it is to restart the PC.
Some programs I have used for years on different PC under different Windows, including XP pro, just won't work on 9100.
I returned it.

Strengths: cool looking, fast, pretty good value for money when on sale
Weaknesses: 19 ultrasharp Monitor not as sharp when not set to optimal resolution (1280x10240), lots of Dell installed apps/trial software
Summary: I just purchased the Dell Dimension 9100 to replace the family computer. The exact specifications for my computer were: 3.0 GHz 630 P4, 512 MB DDR2 RAM, 160 GB SATA Hard Drive, 16X DVD-ROM, 48x CD-RW, 128 MB X300 video card, Integrated 7.1 Audio, Windows XP Home, integrated network card, 1 year warranty, no floppy drive, no modem, no speakers (using speakers I already have) and the Dell 19 inch UltraSharp Flat Panel monitor (1905FP). All for a cost of $839 (after $100 rebate but not including $19 shipping or state tax). I think that's a pretty good price for this system with the 19 inch ultrasharp.
The first thing that I noticed was that the case was very different than the previous Dells I had purchased (Dimension 8300 last year for myself). The case was a lot cooler looking. The front is silver and black, the sides are white and the case opens without the need for tools (press a button and the side panel come right off for easy upgrading).
The setup up was easy. Dell provided a quick reference chart for the computer and another one for the Flat Panel monitor. Dell provided all the necessary cable to connect the computer together including both DVI and analog VGA monitor cables. I used the DVI cables.
Since this is the "family" computer and not meant for state of the art game playing (my 8300 that I bought last year is for gaming), I chose not to upgrade the video card when I bought this PC. I also made due with the integrated audio and hooking up my old speakers to the system. I did not buy the DVD writer because the 8300 I bought last year has a DVD writer and I didn't need two.
The system is really quiet. I was surprised because when I bought my 8300 last year with all the bells and whistles including ATI 9800 PRO video card - it sounded like it was in a wind tunnel when I was playing games. That may have been a function of the video card and the extra stress that games put on a computer. But this 9100 is nice and quiet.
The flat panel monitor is nice an sleek. Nice bright and sharp image at the optimal/native resolution of 1280x1024. The monitor can rotate to give you a longer length instead of depth although I haven't used that feature. The monitor also has 4 USB ports built into it. At the native resolution, my wife had a hard time getting used to the smaller text so I changed the resolution. But then the picture was fuzzy and not sharp so I changed it back to 1280x1024.
I added a Desktop Wireless 802.11b PCI to the computer and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to upgrade the PC. The case opened up easily. I didn't even need a screwdriver to remove the slot cover or to add the PCI card. The design allows the PCI card to be plugged in and a clamp holds all the PCI cards in place without a screw.
The PC boots up quickly and performs nicely.
I did uninstall a bunch of Dell installed trial software (trial photo editor, trial Quick Books, AOL & Earthlink sign up software, music match) This is a little annoying, but I have learned to deal with it on most PC bought today.
I have not called Technical Support concerning this PC, but have had to call about my year old PC and I was not impressed with the Tech Support. They were based out of a foreign country and I had a hard time communicating with them.
As far as delivery, I was shocked how quickly the PC was sent to me. I had to wait for my 8300 last year, but for this 9100, I ordered it on Wednesday and it arrived the next Tueday! Less than 1 week and this was over the Labor Day weekend!
Overall I am very happy with the PC, the monitor and the price. I would recommend the Dell 9100.

I spent 2 thousand dollars on my dimension 9100 an ...
Strengths: Its burns cds quickly
Weaknesses: EVERYTHING else and I do mean everything
Summary: I spent 2 thousand dollars on my dimension 9100 and the day I set it up was the day ALL my troubles started. First I got to spend hours and hours trying to get in touch with dells customer support which let me tell you is some of the worst customer service ever, to then be told my less than 24 hour old computer had a virus and if I restored my computer to factory settings it would make the virus go away and my computer should start operating normally well guess what WRONG !!! Over the next 4 days I spent hours on the phone with dell to then be told by a different techie that my computer didnt have a virus I just needed to do some updating and spyware checking and that after this my computer would run normally guess what WRONG AGAIN !! The computer freezes frequently, the dell jukebox that came with the computer has never worked, I have uninstalled and reinstalled Java twice and my computer still tells me I dont have it, I cannot shut down my computer with the turn off computer icon I have to shut it down by the tower, I cannot update anything w/ my update manager because I get error messages every time, my computer is very slow besides cd burning. I called dell once again to be told after spending 2 thousand dollars that I could give them 200 more dollars to speak with software support, I dont think so not after I just spent 2 thousand dollars are you nuts, I was told a techie would come to my home but guess what that NEVER happend. Now you tell me if that is the kind of computer you would like to waste your hard earned money on !?! I asked to speak with a supervisor on more than one occasion and was hung up on I strongly recommend getting your computer some where else or spending as little money as possible on your dell pc.
PS: Buying a 4 year warranty didnt do me any good so dont waste your money, plus I get to fork out the money to send the computer back to dell !!

Strengths: Quiet, well designed inside and out, relatively fast, easy to upgrade, cheap when buying during sale.
Weaknesses: more PCI slots, took some time to build, that's it.
Summary: Got this PC along with a 24" Dell LCD for about $1300. So if you paid more, you got yourself to blame for overspending.
It took a while for DELL to build my machine. Since this is not the 1st time I am buying from DELL, I expected that. Expect to wait about 1/2 month.
I was not disappionted when I got it. Everything worked right out of the box. The machine is whisper quiet with is uniquely designed massive heat sink and massive fan, which is a huge plus for me. I hate loud computers.
To make it my PC, I upgraded memory to 1.5Gb, upgraded to 250Gb HD, Nvidia 6800 video card, Turtle Beach sound card with SPDIF out, and added the wireless PCI card. All without a problem. Keep in mind that one should and must read instructions before install all these extra crap if you do not want to encounter any problems.
Regarding the softwares that DELL installed on the machine. I uninstalled just about all of them as they are either useless or I find superior softwares elsewhere.
It has been several months now and no problem so far. Sure, I don't get the super high scores on 3D Mark 05, but for what I use it for, it is pretty decent. Oh yeah, love that 24" LCD. It is so huge and clear. Sweeeet.

Strengths: Powerful, sleek look, 7.1 High Definition Audio...
Weaknesses: No HDTV capabilities.
Summary: My computer is used mostly for media purposes - burning/watching movies, playing games on ocassion, as a TV DVR (supports 2 TV tuners). I did exhaustive research on this and all competing models and do not regret my decision at all.
The sound is absolutely amazing and it's the first thing that really jumped out at me. I upgraded to a widescreen flat panel monitor and watching movies on it is a joy.
My one interaction with Dell customer service was good but I know that it can be hit/miss. I will be sure to update with any future experiences.
If you're looking for a high-performing powerful computer and have the $ to spend, you can't go wrong.

Strengths: NA
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: This is a great computer. The processing power is amazing. I have always stuck with Dells. Their customer service department is sometimes not as helpful, but their tech support is pretty good.

Strengths: quietness, appearance, reliability, fast delivery
Weaknesses: tall tower, crappy dell scanner/fax i bought with it
Summary: I am in no way computer-technical, however after much research and recommendations from many different people, i decided to buy the top of the line Dell 9150. I upgraded the memory and a heap of other stuff which brought the cost of my computer well above AUS$2000. About 8 months after purchase it is still performing like a gem. I have had absolutely no problems with it (touch wood) and Dell has certaintly lived up to its reputation for reliability. The delivery was also quick. The only problem i have is that the tower is too tall to fit into my computer desk. I definitely recommend the Dell 9150 for anyone who is heavy on using media/graphics/gaming - even though i'm not, but it's good to know the option is there if i want it.

Strengths: 1. Great design both internally and externally
2. great value for the money
Weaknesses: 1. Loud hard drive
2. Microsoft windows is on the hard drive, no cd
Summary: The hard drive is loud. Other than that, the computer is very quiet, whisper quiet. I wish that Dell would provide the MS Windows on the CD instead of the hard drive.
