Strengths: Powerful, 15" screen, wireless, sturdy
Weaknesses: No COM port, No docking port option. No Irda.
Summary: 2004-08-30 10:23:06 Consumer Reports (6/04) rated the Dell Inspiron 5100/5150 highly (4th). Options: 2.8GHz P4, 40GB drive, 256MB RAM, 96WHr battery, no case, no floppy, WinXp Home, no extended warranty, 8X DVD, 802.11b, Modem, WinXP Home. USB ports in rear. DVD on left side. No COM port so Palm HotSync cradle requires getting an adaptor. Need a USB Flashdrive and/or USB Floppy for sharing data with the unwired world. It is sturdy at the cost of being a little heavy. If we were going to be traveling with this I would have bought a lighter one. As with anything there are things to complain about but the performance (processing and wireless) are great. I'm glad I got it.

Strengths: Hardware is very dependable and has been trouble-free. I leave mine on 24/7 as I have cable modem, with all necessary security of course. Good battery life and easy to use on the road.
Weaknesses: I originally had some problems with the audio causing a lock up, but this has been rectified with the Dell support.
Summary: No trouble since September 2003. I really love my Inspiron 5100. It does lots and can run most any softway with ease - at least everything I have tried has worked. I did add the wrong web cam which obviously didn't work but that was due to an error on my part for getting the wrong one. I would highly recommend this laptop, even though Support sometimes has strange charactors on the other end of the phone (they still get the job done!)

Strengths: All the features of a desktop in a small laptop.
Weaknesses: It is a bit heavy to carry around.
Summary: This laptop has all the functions of a desktop and you can take it with you. The wi fi card enables you to use the internet in cafes and enabled bookstores etc. It is fast and easy to use. The battery lasts long too. You can listen to music or watch DVDs on the go.

Strengths: Fast, good battery life.
Weaknesses: No COM port, only 2 usb ports, on the heavy size, touchpad not very accurate, Fan intake on the bottom prevents you from setting it soft surfaces, like a bed or a couch.
Summary: I am very happy with this purchase it is very fast and works great. It is heavy but that does not bother me I do not travel often. Only having 2 usb ports can be a problem, because I always have a mouse plugged into one usb port so I only have 1 available.
