Beautifully designed, but usage has downfalls
Strengths: Bigger screen than previous Nano
Weaknesses: Earphone plug is at bottom of unit
Summary: Plus:
- Beautiful design. Curve edges.
- Bigger screen than previous Nano.
- New album art display mode, which is similar to the iTune software.
- Accelerometer that detects and automatically rotates display to match correct orientation.
Minus:
- Finger print on screen is very obvious. Not sure if it is due to material or the curve surface.
- Earphone plug is at bottom of the unit. This causes couple issues. If I put the Nano in my pocket, it is upside down, with the earphone plug facing upward. When I first insert the Nano into my pockets, the screen immediately changes to the horizontal mode. For the next 10 sec, I cannot change the volume. Second issue is that menu (top), play (bottom), rewind (left), and forward (right) are sitting upside down now. If I try to operate the direction wheel with unit in my pocket, everything is reversed. Volume control is ok, since it is clockwise and counter-clockwise, same for up-side-down right-side-up.
Apple iPods have been in a class by themselves. Standards and expectations are high. Design and ayout might look great, but there are some real-life usage issues with this layout.
