Strengths: Sony quality, good sound. Compact unit, doesn't take up a lot of space.
Weaknesses: Proprietary speaker plugs. You cannot add any speakers and if the wires are not long enough you are out of luck.
Summary: This is a great sounding unit for the price. Cheaper than Bose, but sounds great. It would be interesting to do a "blind" sound test to see which most people would consider superior. The DVD player takes longer than most to read a DVD. If you don't want the hassle of wiring rear speakers, this is one option to get a room full of sound.

Strengths: Great sound. Better then Bose 3-2-1. Better price then Bose if you shop on the web.(-$300-400.00). Best deal for the $$$$$$.
Weaknesses: None at this moment.
Summary: I have Bose 3-2-1, but since I bought this system I prefer to use it. Bose is over priced and another review sounds like somebody from "Bose" wrote it.

This is definitely better system then Bose 3-2-1. You will love it !!!!!!!! And the DVD player is better then Bose. See tech spec.

Strengths: clean, simple, no messy cables
Weaknesses: none yet
Summary: I like the ease of use of this product. It has a sleek look, clean appearance, no unecessary cables. The sound is clear. The ideal system for our medium sized living room.

Strengths: Compact size with big sound.
Weaknesses: None so far.
Summary: This little guy can really outdo some of the big guys with 5.1 in the market. I choose it because of the compact size and it beats the crap out of my previous theater system. Does it sound better than Bose 3-2-1, sure it does, but not by a whole lot. Is it worth it, YOU BET!!!

Weaknesses: not too much
Summary: great system it sounds amazing compared with most other systems in and available at the current time. If you ask me it beats out the bose 321 and any other wireless system that I have heard so far

2 Star ReviewOK sound - not made very well
Strengths: only 2 speakers - decent surround emulation - slick, minimalist design
Weaknesses: have to buy special stands for the speakers, most off-the-shelf ones aren't compatible only one HDMI output, no input disc player unreliable
Summary: Had problems with manufacturing quality on this - Sony was of very little help

I bought the extended warranty (refurbished model) and found it very difficult

to get service - in fact, I was informed by Sony that there are no repair facilities

anywhere within my region (Midwest), and after much phone time, broken promises

and frustration, they just decided to give my money back, minus tax, shipping and

warranty fee. I was a Sony fan, a loyal customer for many years. No more.

1 Star ReviewNot enough power, weak base
Strengths: Price
Weaknesses: not enough power
Summary: Sony has no business in producing speaker products. They have their talents, mainly camcorders, tvs, and laptops. And they should stick with it. Those who judged DAV-X1 superior to the Bose 3-2-1 needs a thorough audiology evaluation. I am trying unload mine, no go. I bought it a year ago for $899 NOW IT IS SELLING FOR $399. Its not worth $99. Go with the Bose and you wont regret it. I REGRET NOT HAVING GOING WITH IT IN THE FIRST PLACE, FOR NOT HAVING AN HDMI SLOT REAL LAME, NO?

Strengths: Visually appealling compact speakers that produce quality sound
Weaknesses: Subwoofer at times is overwhelming/underwhelming, but it can be adjusted
Summary: I bought this system since its speakers were more compact then that of the Philips comparable system. The sound is very pleasing for how compact and the price is much less then that of the compact Bose 3-2-1 or even the Acoustimass that does not have a DVD player. Set-up is a breeze with the Sony DAV-X1. True it does not have true 5.1 surround sound but for a 2.1 system to me it is worth every dollar since unsightly wiring is not needed as with a 5.1 surround. Would definitely recommend this system to anybody looking to buy a 2.1 surround system.

Strengths: Great sound, extra inputs, upscaling DVD
Weaknesses: Limited manual controls, limited volume, confusing remote
Summary: Heres the deal, this is a great system for a specific kind of setup, specifically a small room. I needed a small, basic system that had more than one input and a DVD player and thats exactly what this is. It doesn't have a lot of power but more than enough for a small room with a 32" LCD. The major downside to this system is the lack of manual controls, like an equalizer. Also, there are a lot of things that you can't change unless you're viewing the settings on the TV. Also, the remote control is really not user friendly, but it gets the job done. On the whole the system is pretty great. It stands alone in regards to price and options and for someone like me, its just the pefect thing.

Strengths: Easy to setup. Clear high pitch sound and strong bass. Upconverts dvd to 1080i. DIVX possible after firmware isupgrade.
Weaknesses: Surround sound not as good as real 5.1 systems.
Summary: Enough power to fill small room. Large proprietary connectors are used to connect speakers to the main unit. The connectors cannot go through most speaker stands. The wires cannot be hided inside the speaker stands.
