Strengths: Learning function from existing remote, compatible with most anything.
Weaknesses: On/off mechanism (movement sensor) a bit too sensitive....but can be de-activated.
Summary: 2007-08-20 06:32:30 Great little gadget. Inexpensive at $29.99 from a dealer on this site. You can combine different remote keys into one screen...ie: When using my cable icon....I can up/down the channels from the cable box...but also adjust the volume on the TV without having to switch to the TV icon. This is handy also with VCR and DVD....program the volume/mute buttons to control the TV volume without switching back and forth from DVD/VCR to TV. Many possibilites here. You can program up to 15 sequence of events on 4 different macro buttons. ie: When pressing DVD...you can turn on your surround sound, turn on the TV, switch the TV to channel 3, turn off the sound on your TV so the sound output goes to your surround sound....turn on your DVD player....even pop open the DVD door...all with the push of one button. Really an amazing tool. You can truly put all your other remotes in storage. Neat looking...but on/off detection is really sensitive. You cannot put the remote on the sofa, or anywhere there is movement....it turns off/on constantly. Even on a table..if someone walks by...it turns on. Not a problem...except shortens battery life quite a bit.

11/30/05: OK...the battery life is pretty darn short! 3/4 weeks each replacement. I turned down the brightness hoping that will help. You can also turn off the "sensor"...so you only have to "push" the panel w/ your finger....but you might inadvertantly turn on/off something...or change a channel if you push the wrong area. Still...a great gadget and I get many compliments!

8/20/07:....after 2 years of use....and dozens of AAA batteries....the push-pads and underlying lighted displays are failing. I now have to guess where some of the "buttons" are. Battery cover broke off months ago. Not sure if 2 years maximum use is normal or not. Looking at the "one-for-all" regular push-button universal as my next one. The backlighting on this one was pretty neat in the beginning...but that novelty wore off when the consequences of such technology started showing through.

Strengths: Only buttons nedded to operate device specifed show Coolness factor Blue 'LCD' like face
Weaknesses: None
Summary: I've bought many universal remotes but for the $25 I paid for this VERY cool remote takes the cake! It was able to 'out of the box' work my stero system and was VERY easy to program my DVD, VHS, Satalite reciver, and TV. I bought this iten new and was worried that I would have to hacj the motion sensor because of reviews read elseware exclaiming that the remote was a battery hog because of the motion sensor being to sensitive! My remote came with the disable code as well as the opertunity to raise or lower the brightness of the screen and also the time that the backlight stays on. Even at the lowest setting for the brightness i have NO problems in a well lit room. Also if you are one to memorize button placement on remotes it is possible because there are buttons on the remote just not very visible, but one CAN FEEL them! once again a VERY COOL PRODUCT!!

Strengths: Quick and easy setup, simple to understand display, great "home theater" function.
Weaknesses: Not sure of durability just yet.
Summary: This is a great remote! I replaced a worn-out Sony AV-3000 (still selling for $99) with this, ~$40, and has basically the same functionality, while sized like a normal remote control. The Home Theater function allows you to control multiple components (TV, receiver, cable box, DVD player) without selecting the individual components before each command. So you can turn up the volume on the stereo, change TV input, and change cable channel in just 3 button-presses. A very nice choice for most home theater users.

Strengths: Lights up on touch. Very programable.
Weaknesses: Panel instead of buttons**** Update some buttons disappear.
Summary: 2007-02-28 18:14:53 *****Update after about a year of heavy use some of the buttons do not light up anymore. They still work as and by now I have memorized where they are on the remote, but this is a definite flaw.

This has just about everything I have been looking for in a universal remote. It's best features are that it lights up when you grab it, displays the current device being controlled, and only lights up the buttons that the device uses. This last one saves you searching through the normal sea of buttons that universal remotes need to operate everything. I use it to control my ReplayTV and have found that it's IR signal is much stronger than my original remote so that the unit is more responsive than ever before. It also allows you to assign the volume keys to an alternate device. For example: when it is controlling the DVD player I can have the volume buttons control the sound on the home theater receiver, and when I'm using my replayTV I've assigned the volume control to change the levels on my tv.

Strengths: - Stylish - Power Saver Modes - Illumination that can be controlled - Solves all my problems - Controls 6 Devices
Weaknesses: - This is a touch panel, so not sure how long it will last on tough usage. - No other weaknesses found
Summary: I bought this to replace my GE Universal Remote that died on me. Look wise, this is very impressive and has all the features. Took me 10 minutes to setup all my device components - DVD, TV, VCR, Home Theatre. Easy to setup and use. Big Plus side is, the illuminated display has a power save mode that can be controlled and so is the brightness. Very confortable to use in dark
