1 Star ReviewIdea good - Product Faulty - POOR customer support
Strengths: As the other reviewers said, the product is designed to work intuitively. I really appreciated that it would recalculate your route if you missed a turn.
Weaknesses: 1. TomTom does not plan for users to get new Palms - great hassle to get new activation code if you switch devices 2. Freezes Hot Sync process 3. AWFUL customer support
Summary: In brief - the other details of my misery are below - this product works well when it works. However, if it doesn't do not expect TomTom to care about the problems their product and its design cause you. This product has cost me hours of trying to get answers to my quesstions - and I work with Palms on a daily basis. Now, I just want to break the expensive cd set to illustrate my freedom from the hideous creation - but I have to wait until I hear back from TomTom, because the software is causing problems that won't allow me to delete it from my Palm!

Since receiving this product for Christmas 2005, I've had 5 days I could use it. Even then I had some problems with hotsyncing, but it was the week after Christmas so I wasn't expecting much customer support.

I then had to return my Palm device because it had crashed - Palm's problem - but when I went to use my Navigator, I was told that I had to get a new activation code. Supposedly, a second one should have been available to me on the website, but I could never get one. It took TomTom 2 weeks to respond to my e-mail for assistance. They told me to send a fax with lots of support to prove the software was mine. 2 weeks later, I still had not heard again from TomTom with a new activation code. Finally on Feb.11th, I received an e-mail saying I should call. Of course that was a Saturday, so I had to wait until Monday, February 13th to get through to someone.

I received a new activation code on February 13th (A month and a week after my initial request for support).

When I went to HotSync my Palm, it froze when it got to the Navigator portion. I could not get the hotsync to cancel though and therefore had to go to task manager on Windows to shut down the computer side of the hotsync and then reset my Palm. I tried to hotsyn multile times, each time trying another trick - I provide Palm support for my employer, so I've learned a lot of tricks.

I now know I want a GPS device, but believe me the next one I purchase will not be TomTom related.

So I now feel it is my duty to warn all customers to avoid TomTom - because believe me, they will avoid you!

Strengths: Gets you were you want to go everytime.
Weaknesses: If you are running Goodlink it can sometimes cause your Treo 650 to crash so that you have to do a soft reset to be able to continue to use TomTom.
Summary: I am a huge fan of this product which does exactly what it says it will do. The interface is easy to work with. The instructions are clear, the map works well. The only real complaint I have is that it isn't always obvious where in your car you can put your Treo 650 in order to view the maps without causing an accident everytime you look down.

Strengths: By far the best portable gps maping system I have tried.
Weaknesses: The amount of ram needed for a region map until you start to use product and find that it knows about your local pizza parlor.
Summary: This is by far the best portable gps maping system that I seen. I saw the commercials for the tomtom unit on tv and liked the tomtom system, but did not like the price for a dedicated gps maping unit. Got a dell axim for work and was on tomtom site and noticed they had a pocketpc version. Read a few reviews on it and all were positive. Got the tomtom software prior to my axim so I was itching to try it out. Got axim and got tomtom installed and the reviews I had read did not do it justice. I was very impressed with the features of not only real time driving directions with voice, but being able to watch a movie on the pocket pc of the route it has selected. It is amazing the amount of data that it has an how accurate the maps are, even when going through an office park. It is fun to purposily take a wrong turn and watch it seamlessly plot you a new route to get to your destination. Highly recommend this product, you will find yourself using it just for fun going to places you know how to get to.

Strengths: Easy to use, very accurate, will find an alternate route if you make a wrong turn and well worth the money
Weaknesses: Unit is sometimes too sensitive, and tell you that you aren't at the destination when you really are. The yellow pages that comes with the software is not completely accurate. Loading maps is long.
Summary: This is a great product. I have been looking for this item to drop under 250 for quite awhile. I highly recommend it. Despite the litle quirks, such as sensitivity and inaccurate yellow pages sometimes, it does the job, and very well. I just wish there was a car mount for the Sony TH55. It beats the Sony car cradle.
