Dust Filter and Bulb issues
Strengths: Great picture, easy setup
Weaknesses: Initial bootup fails to load Red on HDMI or Comp1
Replace dust filter errors 4 hours into operation
Less than 25 hours lost bulb
Summary: I was initially very pleased with my new BenQ projector (manufactured December 2005. The installation and tuning was a breeze. This was the last piece of a $18K home Theatre buildout. Now that the wife and i have settled in to watching movies, the quirks have begun, and they are all realted to the projector.
When I first boot my system, the projector takes 3-5 minutes to fully warm up and stabilize. Right off the bat you notice no Red in the spectrum. The only way I've found to correct this is to flip between sources and the problem automajically goes away. I've test various HDMI, Component, Video, and Svideo cables all with the same result. Very annoying and not what you want to see from a system you've sunk so much $ on.
In the middle of my 3rd movie, I recieved a notice to replace dust filter and that the projector would power off in 1 minute. Before I could even get the lights on to figure out what the hell was going on the projector shut down.
I've cleaned, replaced, cleaned, replaced the dust filter but keep getting prompts. The system does not appear to be hot at all.
Tonight less than 25 hours in, my screen went black and the projector indicators show no problem. I rebooted, changed sources etc, and apparently have lost my bulb.
scary thing is looking though the papers there is no mention of a product warrenty on this model. Additionally the BenQ website list warrenties for all other models except this one.
I've opened a email support ticket with them. Can't wait to get an answer. Looks like my $18K thatre will sit dark this weekend ;(
