Strengths: Black level. Black is really black not blue or gray like in other value price projector. Very bright. Looks awesome. Quiet. Good remote. Wide screen format.
Weaknesses: I have the famous bulb problem but BenQ's support is very responsive. One of the best warranty in the market.
Summary: I've used 3 LCD projectors before this unit and this(because it is DLP) projector has the best black level and the screen door effect is minimal without defocusing.(cannot see it when properly setup). This is very quiet unit, cannot be heard when in econo mode. Now the price went down under 2K so this should be one of the best in value projector. If you don't see the rainbows while watching DLP projection unit. This would be the choice for entry level digital projector. The picture quality is amazing for the money I paid.

Strengths: Cheap price! Crisp image, well equipped inputs, dark black thanks to DLP
Weaknesses: Bulb problem reported on initial product, rainbow effect. No lens shift.
Summary: I got this product yesterday and really satisfied. The surface looked silver color in web, but it is grossy white actually and looks much better. I didn't expect the design is so good.

The strength comes from its cheap price. It only costs $1675 while the competetors cost around $2400 or more. It doesn't have lens shift but who care? Once you install it on proper position, you don't need the function any more.

I didn't calculate and compare the throw distance but it fits well on my 12x12feet living room. I can get full wall sized of image by adjusting the zoom lens.

With 720p setting, I can't see any blur edge or flicker.

Only problem I have is rainbow effect is still there even with 6 speed color wheel. But this is the nature of DLP.

I read some article about bulb problem reported on initial product. I hope it solved or I have to rely on its warranty.

3 Star ReviewPE7700
Strengths: Nice hd picture.
Weaknesses: low light
Summary: I have had my projector for a few months. I have noticed that every 15 min. a quick flash of white light will shine on screen. I emailed tech support twice with no reply. I called and explained my problem to the tech guy. He stated this is normal so the bulb doesn't burn out. What does that mean? It is kind of like a screen saver he says. I don't see the correlation. I said I guess I'll take your word for it. Then he hung up on me. That was rude.

He never stated his name, and did not asked me if there was anything else he could help me with.

1 Star ReviewDust Filter and Bulb issues
Strengths: Great picture, easy setup
Weaknesses: Initial bootup fails to load Red on HDMI or Comp1 Replace dust filter errors 4 hours into operation Less than 25 hours lost bulb
Summary: I was initially very pleased with my new BenQ projector (manufactured December 2005. The installation and tuning was a breeze. This was the last piece of a $18K home Theatre buildout. Now that the wife and i have settled in to watching movies, the quirks have begun, and they are all realted to the projector.

When I first boot my system, the projector takes 3-5 minutes to fully warm up and stabilize. Right off the bat you notice no Red in the spectrum. The only way I've found to correct this is to flip between sources and the problem automajically goes away. I've test various HDMI, Component, Video, and Svideo cables all with the same result. Very annoying and not what you want to see from a system you've sunk so much $ on.

In the middle of my 3rd movie, I recieved a notice to replace dust filter and that the projector would power off in 1 minute. Before I could even get the lights on to figure out what the hell was going on the projector shut down.

I've cleaned, replaced, cleaned, replaced the dust filter but keep getting prompts. The system does not appear to be hot at all.

Tonight less than 25 hours in, my screen went black and the projector indicators show no problem. I rebooted, changed sources etc, and apparently have lost my bulb.

scary thing is looking though the papers there is no mention of a product warrenty on this model. Additionally the BenQ website list warrenties for all other models except this one.

I've opened a email support ticket with them. Can't wait to get an answer. Looks like my $18K thatre will sit dark this weekend ;(

1 Star ReviewBenQ PE 7700
Strengths: Clear Picture, Throw Ratio(120" widescreen @ 12 ft.) Color and appearance.
Weaknesses: Bulb went out in 3 months. Sent my projector in and BenQ could not find it for over a week.
Summary: Customer Service is the problem with this projector. It is a known problem that the Firmware needed to be updated with the projectors that were manufactured from Sept. '05 to Dec. '05. They made it extremely difficult to get this problem resolved. The "on hold" times when calling to speak with a customer service rep from BenQ are mainly over 45 minutes. Then after you finally get a hold of an actual person they can not find your product you sent them over a week ago. The customer service reps do not offer any help in resolving problems. They basically make up answers to pacify you at the time.

I would not buy another product from BenQ. This is the second projector I have purchased from them and I have had problems with both of them, and when sending them back for repair they have taken an extra long time to service, and still have not fixed the problem.

DO NOT BUY A PROJECTOR FROM BENQ. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AWFUL
