About what you'd expect
Strengths: Compact
Weaknesses: Clunky AC adapter
Summary: This is pretty much the same fanless, plastic-tray-metal-casing enclosure you'd find under several other brands at your local computer/office store, nothing special (it's virtually identical to the ADS USBX-833, right down to the blue activity light--however, this one does include a vertical-mounting stand). It uses a DIN connector for the AC input which is not my favorite but a common design. The enclosure works fine with my MaxLine II 300GB.

Strengths: So easy to set up
Weaknesses: very short USB cable
Summary: First off this enclosure looks great, I was looking at so many enclosures in the last month and there are so many too choose from but this one had the best reviews (for what I need it for) and the nicest design in my eye, and my new maxtor 200gb fits right in. This was the first time installing a HD into a enclosure, and the adaptec ACS 100 makes it so easy. Only 5 minutes and it was plugged in and I was ready to format my HD. The only drawback is the short USB cable it is like 2'-0" but I could always pick up a longer cable. Excellent buy for the money, so far I am very happy with the ease of the setup.

Strengths: good quality, strong aluminum shell,
Weaknesses: none
Summary: I own two of this Adaptec ACS 100 external enclosure. It has thick, strong aluminum shell which help to dispel the heat quickly and effectively. It's a little cramped to squeeze in but you don't want it to move around.

Strengths: Compact and easy to set up
Weaknesses: Without a fan
Summary: A nice looking, compact, manageable enclosure. With this enclosure, it is very easy to switch the hard drives in and out. That is, it is easy to take out an installed drive and put it a new one. Another advantage is that it supports a broad range and large capacity of hard drives. Nice design, nice handling feeling. It is a fanless enclosure. So far it works well. But I personally still prefer an enclosure with a fan. I was not able to get a rebate back, so the price is not very cheap but reasonable.

Strengths: Compact, quick installation, external build quality, stand, blue light indicator, design, fanless design is QUIET.
Weaknesses: DIN Power Adapter (a common design on all enclosures)
Summary: Aesthetically pleasing design. SUPER QUIET! Compact design makes it easy to transport. Included stand provides upright mounting. Power switch on back (a lot of competitors do not include the power switch). USB 2.0, great throughput! Adaptec Quality.

Strengths: Very good enclosure; well built; nice looking; simple HDD install. Heavy aluminum case in better than cheap ones
Weaknesses: none so far
Summary: I've only just begun using this external enclosure, so I have no idea how it will hold up over the long term. But, so far, I'm very happy with it. First, with it's aluminum casing, it's a nice looking enclosure. Second, it's fanless, so the enclosure itself is dead silent. Finally, it's easy to get it up and running. All I had to do was unscrew two small Phillips head screws, remove the back panel, slide the enclosure out of the case, connect the power and data cables to my drive, fit the drive into the enclosure and put everything back together. I then plugged in the power brick, plugged the provided USB 2 cable into my computer and was ready to go. I'm using Windows XP, so I didn't have to install any drivers. The enclosure gets pretty warm (not hot, just warm), but the drive is practically unhearable in my environment and the data transfer is very fast. I'm very happy with it and rate it 5 stars out of 5.

Strengths: Quality construction, medium-heavy bushed aluminum case good for heat dissipation.
Weaknesses: No fire wire for data transfer.
Summary: So far I am very pleased with the Adaptec ACS 100 hard drive enclosure. It has given me no problem and installing the hard drive was a snap. The medium-heavy, brushed-aluminum housing appears to be very effective in dissipating heat buildup emanating from the hard drive. Data transfer is very fast using the USB 2.0 connection. In summary, the enclosure seems to be well made and performs as marketed. I would buy again.
