Strengths: Control layout
Weaknesses: Burned up after a couple of years
Summary: 2006-11-18 07:11:14 I bought one 2.5 years ago. My first problem was with the backlight for the display. The light would erratically turn itself off, after a while it just stayed off.

The unit runs very hot and I guess a component finally failed. The display would show what was playing but you could not hear anything. I have several docking stations and had the same result in all of them.

I called Kenwood to get it repaired and was told it was not a repairable item, unless it was still under warantee (1 year).

I thought that Kenwood put out quality products, obviously this was not one of them. Now I get the pleasure of looking for a replacement and throwing this one in the trash.

Strengths: Nice form-factor, intuitive interface
Weaknesses: Limited mounting options, unit gets hot, no "look-ahead" feature, display can be hard to see in bright conditions.
Summary: 2004-07-02 05:44:27 Installation:

I installed the car kits in a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder and a 2001 Honda Civic Coupe without any problems. It took about two hours per car. The ability to mount upside-down would be handy both in the car and at home. It's possible, but the display would be upside-down.

At home, it was not easy to find a strong signal and the antenna required placement on the roof. The car antenna seems much stronger, (I got a strong signal even in the garage) and the signal has never dropped. Sound is fantastic. Although, in the cars I'm using FM modulators and there's a bit of a problem with the "s" sound (like I need a deesser). I'm going to try to turn down the gain on the FM modulator.

Activation/CustomerCare:

I activated online and saved $10. It was instant and flawless. Getting a streaming password was not as easy. This password allows you to listen to SIRIUS via the Web. It took 4 requests and more than a week. I was able to talk to a live human at customer care, but each time they said they would email it, the told me email takes 3 DAYS! That seems odd and unacceptable. I NEVER did get the emails (yes, my email works and I don't have spam blocking.) but was finally given the PW over the phone. Web streaming sounds very good but not as good as through the receiver.

A small disappointment:

The music channels on SIRIUS sound very good, but I wish they would allocate more bandwidth to the NPR broadcasts. They are clear, but not full and rich. My local FM NPR station sounds better than on SIRIUS.

Why I chose SIRIUS:

I chose SIRIUS over XM because I wanted NPR and no monthly fees. (SIRIUS offers a "lifetime" fee.) Before choosing XM, check out the "why we rock" page on sirius.com.

SIRIUS is keeping up with current content. It was great to have Air America Radio added to the lineup!
