Strengths: Good quality video,easy to operate,full manual control
Weaknesses: Bottom Loading, no manual focus ring.
Summary: I have found the GR-DV 800 To be a good all around combo cam. The qulity of the video is very good for a unit in this price range, with stills that work very well in a video environment. The manual controls are easy to understsnd and use, and worked very well. The auto focus is a bit touchy in low light, in which case I use the manual control accesed through the menu dial. The best feature this camera offers is true manual white balance, and exposure control. These two are mandatory on any camera I purchase, followed closely by, and equally important manual focus. I also like the fact that this camera is a little larger than most of the new breeds. It makes it much easier to handle and access controls. The bigger they are the better. My only real complaint against this camera is the absence of a manual focus ring around the lens barrel. This one feature should be present on every video camera made. In fact it should be required by law. Over all I am very pleased with this unit as an all around combo cam in this price range.
