Weaknesses: Complicated setup.
Unit Partly Defective upon initial use.
Panasonic Technical Support.
Summary: 2006-09-30 21:46:22 As I write this review, my brand new SC-HT830V Home Theater System is at my local Authorized Panasonic Service Center.
I purchased this item back in November 2005. It was in the box until June 2006. I did not even open up the box until June - when my Panasonic TH-42PX600U television arrived. (Which was technically purchased in 11/05 - see my 42PX600U review.)
Anyway after initial use - I find out that after everything is properly connected - the VHS - is not sending out any Video signal to the TV to which it is connected. Also the FM/AM unit is not working either.
The whole thing is complicated to set up.
I only bought it - because - I still wanted to have a VHS option to use with my home theater system. I should of just purchased a standalone unit.
It seems as combo units are not Panasonic's strong points. My friend has had to bring in 2 of the combo units he has purchased to the Panasonic Authorized service center.
I tell you - what a pain it was to bring the unit and subwoofer to the repair shop - it really sucks that they don't provide in-home service for this item. I really should not be servicing a brand new product.
UPDATE - I took the item in for servicing - apparently my unit was damaged in shipping. Since it took months to open it - because - i was not going to connect the unit until I received my panasonic plasma tv - 42px600u until June - panasonic sent me a new one - and it works...because we could not tell whose fault was the damage they just charged me 120 for the new item.
