Strengths: none
Weaknesses: none
Summary: This software is perfect for an amateur in editing and creating video files since it does come with very basic functions. I was making a short family vacation video and the output was very good with clear pictures and high quality sound. The software is very worth it for a starter like me.

Strengths: Good value; Intuitive interface
Weaknesses: Confusing product differentiations
Summary: I wanted a cheap video editing product, so how could I argue with Free After Rebate?! I think they were clearing out their old products, waiting for a new relase. There were actually three different versions of Sony's Vegas Studio. The plain vanilla one listed here, a platinum version and a mega platinum version. Actually it's not called "mega platinum", but I forgot the exact name! ;-) I think the platinum versions provide better support for HiDef video cameras and writing out Blu-Ray. I have an older 8mm video camera, so I didn't need that. Installation went without issues. I was able to "rip" the video from my camera via firewire, and it dumped it to a large file. It broke the video stream into "scenes", based on when I stopped recording. I've only use the program once to edit together old film movies that were converted to 8mm video camera tape. It was intuitive and easy to use. I'd recommend it, especially for the price! ;-)

Strengths: Great set of built-in tutorials, stack of good features
Weaknesses: Editing is limited with only 3 videos and 3 audio tracks at a time
Summary: Due to my inexperience with video editing, at first, I found the main window (of the software) a bit uneasy to get around. However, once I got passed that window and reading through a couple of tutorials, I started getting to like the software. (There's almost a tutorial for every task you need). There are a few good features including being able to directly upload to YouTube, royalty–free music generator, video effects and transitions. Shortly, with this basic version, you can turn yourself into a movie editor in no time.

Strengths: intuitive, fast/price
Weaknesses: better ability to compress mpg files to fit on a dvd
Summary: This product contains two products: Sony DVD Architect, and Vegas Movie studio. I primarily use DVD Architect, and find it to be my preferred software for rendering DVD video from captured mpg family video. It is less bloated, and starts up quicker than many of the other products on the market. The only drawback is that at times, some longer mpg files are not compressible enough by the program to fit on a 4.5 GB dvd.

Strengths: Inuitive and relatively fast
Weaknesses: none of consequence
Summary: I purchased this this so I had a a licensed editing program on 2 machines, the other loaded with Vegar Version 8. The qualities of that version are pretty much intact, although the new one seems to be a bit more refined. I variously used 4 or 5 other editing programs, some cheaper some more exprensive, and I've found this one to be the one easiest to use for the relatively simple tasks I ask from it.

Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9
Strengths: Smaller foot print on the system resources, Easy to Edit.
Weaknesses: A little annoyance is the fact that you have to use two programs to complete a disc. Not many adavced features like Bluray discs
Summary: I have previously Owned Pinnacle and frustrated with the memeroy it eats so wanted to try Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9. Inital analysis show its better than my old software.
A little annoyance is the fact that you have to use two programs to complete a disc: Vegas Movie Studio to make the movie and DVD Architect(included) to make the menus and author the disc. I was able to create Movies for Widescreen ratio (16:9) and Standard (4:3) with ease,Menus and transitions are moderate to good.Till now i am very satisfied and no system hang ups, i would recomend this software, for all simple jobs with out complex features. For people who are new to Video editing, it will take time to get thru your first disc.
