Strengths: Does exactly what it says -- it made a huge difference to our vacation!
Weaknesses: None, really. You probably need a waterproof watch or a nearby clock, as you have to loosen the cast cover periodically and then reseal it. You therefore have to watch the time.
Summary: We got our son a waterproof cast specifically so we could go on our scheduled beach vacation. After the cast was on, the doctor said sternly that our son should not go anywhere near the beach. The reason was that sand and salt would get in the cast and not be washed out, creating skin hardships and making it dangerous to remove the cast (the saw would grind against grains of sand). Boy, that stern order to avoid the beach was a blow to us! Luckily, I found the Xerosox cast cover on the internet. We ordered it and tried it out in the pool -- no leakage. It did make my son sweat, which we expected. His particular cast vented sweat at the elbow, so that area got a tad damp, but the top part of the cast, where the cover sealed against the bare skin on his arm, was dry. So -- we took the Xerosox cover to the beach, and our son went out in the rolling Atlantic surf every day. He loved it -- so did we! There is no guesswork -- you can tell that the seal is "working" just by looking at it. The cover works by creating a vacuum seal, and it's easy to look at the cover and see that the seal is tight. Only once the valve opened unexpectedly during some rough play with his cousins, so we quickly resealed it, and we could tell in a glance that no air had leaked in.

Prior to finding the Xerosox cover, we figured we'd have to drive an hour to a water park every day just to get our son into a regular pool. The cost of the cover and delivery was as much as one day at a water park, so we realized it was worth the cost right away -- a big savings over going to the water park every day.

Today our son had his cast changed, and his arm had rave reveiws from the doctor.

The one drawback (if any) is that the cover should be loosened, according to directions, every 45 minutes. This is because it fits tight to the skin, and it's wise to loosen the restricted part every so often. We pushed the loosening schedule to once an hour, and I had to get my son out of the ocean and up to the beach house porch to loosen the cover then reseal it. However, that really wasn't a hardship. I wear a waterproof watch, so I could keep track of the time. I'd heartily recommend the cast cover to anyone. It really works. He also wore it to walk on the beach to keep out sand.
