Strengths: Plextor name. Solid performer. Quiet.
Weaknesses: Lacks some of the features (GigaRec, SecuRec) of Plextor's premium writer, but these are of minor consideration for most purposes.
Summary: This drive is a replacement for a Yamaha that quit on me and honestly never worked as well as I would have liked anyway. This is my 3rd Plextor drive (one other CD-RW and a DVD+RW) and I have been very happy with Plextor's performance.
Installation was a snap with no configuration issues- it is recommended that this drive be installed as a master on it's own IDE cable.
This drive is a bit pricier than other brands, but if you do a search at Newegg you can find it in an OEM bulk pack configuration for considerably less (about 46.00 with shipping) than the retail box version.
I do imagine this will be one of the last CD-RWs that Plextor produces as they will probably focus more on their excellent DVD+RW line.
