Strengths: ViewSonic name, beautiful design (will grace any desk), controls are not tiny as some indicate (perhaps a modification as this one was mft’d in January 2006). Great startup (my first LCD).
Weaknesses: None thus far!
Summary: My purchase was through Buy.com and the service was exceptional; ordered on the 16th of May and delivered on the 18th. I also like FedX as the box arrived in perfect condition with no abuse indicated. This monitor was easy to install and ViewSonic procedures were followed. Colors are brilliant and text is very clear. Although mainly designed for gamers, the monitor works great for other purposes as well, so don’t shy away thinking games is all it’s good for: ASRock 939dualsata2 mobo, AMD Athalon X2 4200+ dual processor, 2 gigs of Corsair XMS memory, eVGA PCIe Express Nvidia GeForce 7600GS video card (super card) with DVI, Seagate 7200.9 160-gig SataII hard drive, Antex 550w truepower PSU (unbelievably quite), etc. The $40 rebate was frosting on the cake. A great buy.

Strengths: Pros: Low price, Decent Brightness and Contrast, Fast For Video and Gaming, Blacks are BLACK
Weaknesses: Cons: A little backlight bleedthrough, Noticeable Difference Between Color Shades, Although it's supposed to have a 4:3 aspect ratio the screen looks perfectly square rather than rectangular
Summary: 2005-08-14 05:40:22 Overall I'm very happy with this LCD. I think it's a great monitor for the price ($399). I was scared to death that I would bring it home and have dead pixels but I don't. I do think that it's somewhat overrated. While it's very fast for gaming and watching video, sometimes you can see the different shades change in dark scenes and in photos of skylines and such. The viewing angle is OK but still not great. You pretty much need to be sitting in the sweet spot to see a good picture. It is a very fast LCD which makes it very good for gaming. When looking at a dark black screen you can see a little bit of backlight bleeding through along the top and bottom edges of the screen but it's very minor and from my research, it sounds like most LCDs do this. The picture wasn't that great out of the box but after just a few minutes spent adjusting and fine tuning the settings I got it nearly perfect. FYI, a better Viewsonic 19inch LCD is the VP191B which is only a little more money. I wanted that monitor but none of the stores in my area carried it and I wanted to buy it from a brick and mortar store with cash. This model is like one notch below that one.

Strengths: LOW 4ms response, classy style, affordable, size, quality
Weaknesses: No adjustable height, no USB ports
Summary: This review for the Viewsonic 19" VX924 was not intended to repeat all the technical reports provided by more technical sites such as Tom's Hardware, graphics.tomshardware..... I'm sure you've all done the research on-line. This is merely the results of my search for a solid LCD with FAST RESPONSE time and decent DVD quality.

QUALITY - First of all, I think Viewsonic makes very high quality monitors in general. After receiving from Newegg, I was relieved that there were no "dead" pixels. Manuals, Cd's, cables, etc. were all in the box. Just plug in and push the power button. No assembly required.

STYLE - Although not too important, this is one of the most stylish looking LCD's (aside from Apple's)I've seen to date! The classy silver/black will also look great in an office as well as impress your friends. Indeed, this LCD has a modern, in-style design and trim that reminds me of the Audi A4s...

PERFORMANCE - The fast RESPONSE time is the REAL reason I finally had to replace my Dell 1905FP (which was a solid LCD but just could not cut it for FPS games)! The VX924 handles quick movements without any noticeable ghosting or lag. I've been more than satisfied with gaming performance! Make sure you have a strong video card with DVI to take advantage of the high "native" resolution (1280x1024)digital setting.

Images Quality - I'm sure this is not the best LCD for video editing or DVD viewing, but let's face it, you're not going to purchase this for business use! For casual everyday home use, I could not find anything wrong or made me dissappointed. From web surfing, CAD, DVD viewing, and gaming, every activity looked great and seemed a little quicker than my Dell.

Conclusions - You can't go wrong with the Viewsonic VX924. After months of searching, this was my top choice for $350. The specs all seem to fit my preferences for daily gaming use. Unless you can afford to spend more, this 19" 4 ms LCD looks like a model that's hard to beat!

Strengths: Bright, vivid colors, fast response time (no ghosting)
Weaknesses: Very slight light bleed-through near edges, not quite 4:3, some color bunching
Summary: 2006-01-27 20:48:41 Being my first foray into LCD monitors (other than on laptops), I really didn't know what to expect. My previous monitor was a CTX 17" tube, which has served me well, and in my opinion, has a great picture. But, the VX924 blows it out of the water! The colors are incredibly bright and vibrant (to the point where I had to turn down the brightness from the factory settings....although I've read that this monitor isn't nearly as obnoxiously bright as some LCDs). I am not much of a gamer, but I do watch the occasional DVD on the computer (sort of....it's usually while I'm doing something else in the room), and I have seen no ghosting during fast moving scenes. Other reviewers have said the same thing when testing fast moving games on this monitor, so if that's a concern, I wouldn't be overly worried! Also, the LCD came with no defunct pixels, which I was quite glad to see.

Of course, nothing is perfect, and the monitor does have a few "flaws" (depends on your viewpoint, I suppose). 1. The screen does pivot, but the height is fixed, so some users may have a problem there. Of course, this could easily be rectified by using a third-party mount (I'm pretty sure the screen supports the VESA standard) or some

creativity. This has not been an issue for me, however (I'm 5'8"). 2. Also, for whatever reason, Viewonic does not use a traditional 4:3 screen format. Instead, the LCD is a bit more square, coming in at around 1.26:1. This took a little getting use to, especially while watching a 2.35:1 movie, since the black bars at the top and bottom are even wider, but honestly it's not that bad. 3. Like others have reported, I too have noticed color bunching on occasion, but this appeared to be mostly on flesh tones. In normal use, I don't think you'd ever see this effect unless you're extremely picky! Had I not been specifically looking for it, I don't think I would have ever seen it.

Over all, I think the monitor is very nice. Again, I don't have much of a basis for comparison, but I would certainly give it 4 out of 5 stars easily. Not exactly cheap at $370, but well worth it to me.

Postscript, 12/07/2005: One thing that I am not too fond of, but which probably won't affect most users is the lack of an easy way to switch between the digital and analog inputs. Primarily, this affects me since I use the monitor for two computers, one connected via the dvi and one via the analog d-sub. Switching to the analog input is easy (push of a button), but switching back requires cycling through menu options. It also appears the analog input is the default, so the monitor switches back to that every time it loses a signal on the dvi port (like, for instance, I reboot the computer). As the analog port is used by my secondary computer, this becomes annoying when both machines are on. Of course, this may be common to all LCD panels (at least, it's common to Viewsonic panels per my experience as my N2750W does the same thing).

Postscript #2, 01/27/06: I'm not sure how I missed this previously, but I just discovered that it is possible to switch back and forth between analog and digital inputs with the press of a single button. The analog as the default input is still annoying, however...

Strengths: Cool style, Very clear text, Useful dual input (DVI & Analog), low power consumption, 4ms refresh for gaming.
Weaknesses: DVD playback too bright
Summary: I've been using these in a dual monitor setup for some time. One on an analog and one on a digital. Definitely go with a digital connection if you have the opportunity. The whites are whiter and the contrast is better. I was concerned when I read reviews about light bleeding from the edges of the monitor. I can notice a slight bleeding along the edges, but it is not bothersom for most activities, even with a black background. Where I notice it most is watching DVD's -- it has been impossible to tweak the brightness and contrast to get a true black. Always the letterbox bars are a different shade of black than the top bars. So if you're primarily watching DVD's, I can't recommend the VX924 (try the NEC 1970GX-BK at a higher $ it's better overall). I have used Viewsonic monitors for years and stick with them because of the clarity of text (I prefer not to use cleartype and these monitors do a great job with crisp text) and 3-year warranty. I have been satisfied with the color performance for the limited graphics editing that I have done with these.

Weaknesses: None so far
Summary: I just upgraded from an ancient 19" CRT and could not be happier with my purchase. The colors are accurate, after a little adjustment and driver downloads. I would recommend this product to anyone.

Strengths: Large 19" Display - Very Bright - 3ms Response - The Price - No Dead Pixels
Weaknesses: None so far.
Summary: This thing is HUGE compared to my 17" CRT. I had to put it all the way back on my desk so I wouldn't have to turn my head to see the screen. SUPER Bright( I had to turn it down a little and crisp pics. I had no problem with refresh rates because my settings are on 60 Hz anyways. Just plugged it in a nd started playing online. I play SOF2, Half life and WOW with no ghosting what so ever.

Strengths: good gaming monitor. size/brightness/refresh are good for price.
Weaknesses: blurry section down center when reading text files.
Summary: My kids loved the monitor for their game playing. But when I went to read text files and internet news sites, I found that there was a three inch wide section down the center of the screen which was blurry. Letters seemed almost in bold type and fuzzy. To left and right it was fine, but the center of the screen was blurry. This was just too irritating to keep the monitor, so I've returned it. Store is currently out of stock, but I'm going to try another of the same model when they get some in.

Strengths: Reliability (my previous monitor was a Viewsonic and I liked it very much). Size.
Weaknesses: Tiny adjustment controls
Summary: I think Viewsonic makes a very good monitor. In the future, it will probably be the one I buy. As a gamer, I follow the advice (usually) in the gamer magazines and the Viewsonic was given a glowing review.

Weaknesses: not very adjustable.
Summary: i use this screen just for regular use and it is fine. I have not used it for games so i have not used its full potential. sometimes though it seems like the color are not perfect and when going through internet you can see bleeding. i would recommend if you really want it, otherwise there might be a cheaper alternative.
