Strengths: Incredible 3d presentation; Outstanding 2d view from 6 separate beams; expandable features
Weaknesses: Color would be great. High cost for B/W unit.
Summary: 2005-07-11 15:16:04 I mounted the Matrix 47 3d not knowing exactly what to expect. I have had the unit on the water several times now and am amazed at the clarity and target separation. I can clearly mark fish that I'm confident wouldn't have displayed on my previous unit. I connected my hand-held GPS via the humminbird connection cable and now have track-plotting and GPS speed. This is a great feature as well. The 3D presentation is remarkable in its ability to show you orientation of marked structure and fish to the boat. I can now not only tell at what depth a target was marked, but where in relation to the boat (far left, left, center, right, far right). The xducer bracket for the '47 is stainless steel. I've broken more mounts than transducers, so I view this as a great feature as well. The screen is B/W but resolution is ultra-sharp and easy to read even in direct sunlight. With 12-level grey scale, you get plenty of distinction beween the various items displayed. This would be an unsurpassed unit with 256 color, but the cost would most likely offset the value.
I'd highly recommend this unit to anyone serious about understanding the bottom terrain.
