Strengths: Supports all current standards. Can be connected to a hub.
Weaknesses: Size.
Summary: I purchased two external USB based modems to try on a G4 Mac Mini, the Best Data Smart One series Modem (56USBPMAC) and the Apple USB Modem (MA034Z/A). The Best Data modem worked right out of the box using the default 56KUSB script provided on the included CD. Overall, I was able to average 45K connection and through put speeds with the modem regardless of whether it was attached directly to a USB port on the Mini or to a powered hub. The latter is where it has an advantage over Apple's external USB modem, which must be connected directly to a USB port on the computer. The modem does, however take up little desktop real estate (measuring 4.5 inches wide, 5 inches long, and one inch high). Since it supports all current standards, you should be able to connect to any ISP. If the modem were smaller, it would give Apple's USB modem a run for its money. Overall, if you are not concerned about the its size, this modem is a good buy.
