Summary: So you know, this is my first time working with Linux of any flavor.
I actually installed this over the ftp install provided by Novell, but had I known I could buy the DVD for $8 (!!!!) through PriceGrabber, I would surely have saved myself the 6 hour download. Once the download was complete, the install was really simple, probably easier than setting up a Windows machine. This is especially the case when you consider all the software bundled with the operating system, and how nicely they are all packaged together. One disk gets all of your needs acheived. Simply amazing!
I set this up on a laptop with which I had been getting really frustrated with because of problems with it continuously overheating and crashing. I never thought that switching the operating system would fix this problem, but because Linux is so much more effecient on the processor, I havn't had problems with it overheating since despite the fact that I do web development running tons of different applications. What a testiment to Linux!
You still need some computer savvy to use the more sophisticated features, but for all the basic home user functions, it's probably no more difficult to learn than Windows is, as the transition from Windows to KDE is a breeze
I would love to see a future version make the Samba integration easier to setup. This would allow for simpler integration into an existing Windows network. Should be a top priority for future releases.
Obviously if you're a gamer, you'll want to go with Windows, but I did have fun checking out the hundreds of bundled classic games that come with the system. Damned games distracted me from getting my work done.
Overall, I'm totally phyched about finally having a Linux computer and looking forward to learning playing with my new toy!
