Strengths: It connects me to my wireless 802.11b linksys router.
Weaknesses: VERY frequently disconnects me for no apparent reason. Customer Service? What's that?
Summary: I bought the SMC 2635W online and got it for a total of $10 after rebates (it was 30 before rebates).

It installed great. Nice and fast. Their software for wireless management looks cool and even makes you believe that the strength of the card is unbelievable since it let's you adjust the power of the signal transmission. Unfortunately, that software LIES. It constantly says I have 98-100% signal strength, yet, it likes to just disconnect for no reason whatsoever. I emailed the company multiple times complaining about the product, since I assumed that maybe mine was just deffective. They still have yet to reply to me on the issue.

Honestly, I don't believe this card is worth even the $10 after rebate sale. Spend the extra 10-20 and get yourself a linksys card.

Strengths: 300FT distance to my neighbors network across the street
Weaknesses: Do not get this if you want to play online games/diconnects
Summary: 2004-01-30 04:34:09 Instalation was quick and easy. As soon as I installed the driver I was picking up my neighbors network. Price was $10 for remanufactured. It's installed in my Dell Inspiron 8100. Feels great not being wired anymore. Still having reconnect problems after reboot but I think that is in my OS or SMC7004vwbr.

Strengths: $5 after MIR. Easy installation/detection.
Weaknesses: Loses connectivity fairly often. My prior Cisco card NEVER did, nor my USB NIC. If you eject and re-insert the card, it starts working again
Summary: As long as I get my rebate, this was probably worth it. It would be a heck of a lot better deal if it worked 100% of the time.

Strengths: easy setup, good signal, inexpensive, WEP encryption
Weaknesses: None that I have found so far.
Summary: Purchased this card for under $5.00 after rebate, and I couldn't be more pleased with how well it's performed for me over the last 2 months.

Put it in an older Dell Latitude CSx laptop and was up and on the internet (shared cable broadband) in seconds. Using the 128bit WEP encryption works flawlessly for my home network, and the range for a PCMCIA card is pretty good.

I have had solid link quality and signal strength using this inexpensive card, and have yet to have it just lose its connection on me. The way this card has performed for me, it would have easily been worth the $20 I paid before getting the rebates. The only X-Factor which I can't comment on is just how long this device will operate, but so far it's been 2 months without a hitch, and I'm hoping to get at least another 10-16 months before I most likely upgrade to the newer G wireless network.
