JUNK, Don't buy this TV
Strengths: No comment
Weaknesses: Been through two lamps and now a lamp generator which is going to cost over $1,500 for repairs, all in less than a year and a half. Very poor customer service, waited almost 5 weeks to ship a lamp.
Summary: I have had nothing but trouble with this TV. JVC is very unhelpful. When the first lamp went out, the TV was less than a year old. JVC said they would send one, it didn't arrive until 5 weeks after we placed the call. Customer service is the worst. Now TV is less than 1 1/2 years old and 2nd lamp went out AND the lamp generator. It's been 4 days and customer still has not called anyone to service our TV. We called a private repair company who told us this was a common problem, the generator alone is over $1500 to replace. This TV is CRAP!

Strengths: Price to Size, Image Quality in HD and Analog, Picture Adjustments.
Weaknesses: I wish it had more connections for HDMI (1) and Component Video (2), but all is working very well.
Summary: I purchased this TV using PriceGrabber through Beach Camera about 6 days ago and I am very pleased with the TV. Setup was a snap, Delivery from Beach Camera was OUTSTANDING!! I cant stress this enough. The delivery people we professional and courteous. The box was un-damaged and the tilt indicator was not activated. They brought the TV into our entertainment room and waited patiently for us to inspect the TV before signing. Beach Camera was very friendly and easy to work with and we had no problems with them and I would not hesitate to use them again.
The TV is outstanding!! We have a reciever, DVD, Tivo, X-box and PC connected to it and love it. I am sure we will be even more impressed as soon as we get Digital Cable. DVD's play back flawlessly and the image is brilliant and detailed. X-box looks fantastic also. For the price, you cant beat it for a 61" LCOS system that has enought connections for the average user. JVC is a name I have used for a long time and I will continue to use them after this experience. I would recommend to anyone getting this TV and who will have multiple items hooked up to it to invest in a universal remote like the one through Logitech. The ability to hit just one button to turn multiple things on and get right to viewing is a saving grace. I highly recommend this product and will use PriceGrabber and Beach Camera again in the future.

Strengths: The Picture, size to price ratio, included features, style
Weaknesses: Limited number of hookups
Summary: This TV has the best pitcure I have seen compared to ones of equal cost. Whether I saw it at Best Buy or when I unpacked it at my house the picture was great. The cost of this TV at 61' compared to the price is unbeatable, Best Buy sells a 56" for 3100 and you can get this 61" for under 2500. Pretty good deal. I am working now to buy better cables since I have found that it can greatly improve the picture quality. Also I am buyig the cable HD pack and cant wait to see how that looks. As for video games I have hooked up my PS2 and the quality is good, I am looking forward to XBox 360 since it wil have HD cables which will greatly improve the picture quality. I also bought the matching stand (JVC RK-CPR66 HD-ILA TV Stand) they look great together and is well worth purchasing since it only cost $150 compared to other large DLP stands which have run up to $500. All in all I am very happy with the TV and look forward to continued enjoyment

Strengths: * Great looking cabinet.
* More compact cabinet than competitors.
* Great Hi-Def video quality.
* Good Standard-Def video quality.
* Very bright, colorful image.
Weaknesses: * Only 1 HDMI input.
* Can't directly choose video input (have to cycle through all of them.
Summary: This is a fantastic HDTV. I looked at all of the DLP, LCD-RP, Plasma, LCD and LCOS sets that I could find. The DLPs looked good with movies on DVD, but I didn't like them as well as the D-ILA for TV broadcasts. The LCD-RP (like Sony) looked good, but seemed just a tad behind the JVC in black levels and smoothness.
The JVC looks terrific with HD content, and surprisingly good with SD programming, even analog cable channels. My BIL has a Sony LCD-RP and my MIL has an RCA DLP, and this JVC beats both of them with regular cable SD programming.
To my eyes, the all-black 786 model looks good compared to other big-screen TVs I've seen, which have a lot of silver and gray on them. The width and height of the set is also a bit more compact than the competition.
My only complaints have to do with hookup and operation, not picture quality. The TV has six inputs, but you can't directly choose which input you want to watch from the remote control. You have to press the "input" button and cycle through them all. So, to get from Input 3 to Input 2, for example, you have to push the button and wait until it goes to Input 4, push and wait until it goes to 5, push and wait... until you get back around to Input 2. It would be much more useful to be able to have separate input buttons for each input. Also, the TV only has one HDMI input on the back, limiting connection possibilities. It would be much better with two HDMI inputs.
Overall, though, I am very satisfied with this TV. I expected a great HD picture, but I am surprised at how good SD looks. Sure, it's a bit fuzzy and even grainy at times, but I've seen a lot worse.

Strengths: Best color saturation, resolution (both HD and SD),blacks,brightness,cabinet design (both looks and depth of cabinet).
Weaknesses: There are none..but some minor inconveniences like the input selection process, only 1 HDMI input..and that's it .
Summary: Out of the box it looked great both through DVDs and digital cable (COMCAST HD and SD signals in Boston are outstanding). Once I connected it through DVI/HDMI into my upsampling Samsung DVD and COMCAST HD box with DVI output; and tweaked/adjusted all parameters..there's nothing better.
Please be aware..and to save you time if you're reading this; that I have access to just about all manufacturers and models since I've been in the industry at several levels both as a distributor and reviewer. Nothing beats LYCOS..no wonder both SONY and LG( in the Spring of 2006) have moved up to LYCOS for their top models, including SONY's super exclusive/expensive QUALIA line. However, the fact remains that the LYCO system is a JVC/Hughes invention. All other manufacturers came after THAT FACT and are therefore doing a "copycat" move. But after all..copying is the best compliment you can give !!
The store I bought the unit has been gracious to offer me an even exchange for the replacement unit I'm getting..a 1080p 61"-JVC LYCOS..I simply can't wait !!

I've had this model for almost four years now.
Strengths: Great picture (great colors & contrast), nice menu tweaks, Theater Pro mode works well
Weaknesses: Just about to purchase my THIRD bulb, Loud fan, more inputs would be nice, Audio/picture sync could be better.
Summary: Pros:
The menu controls are quite nice. The first few times I rented a DVD I was in awe at how gorgeous the picture was compared to my previous Big screen. The contrast and colors during daytime hours are plenty strong. At night, the Theater Pro mode works great for a non-blinding picture with good skin tones. The fact you can replace the bulb easily yourself will save money in the long run. Outside of the illegible text in VGA mode from Computer input, other modes worked fine for games and DVDs.
Cons:
The computer input "works", but not well for text. In both direct DVI to HDMI mode and in VGA mode, there are painfull shadowing that makes the PC side barely useable. I agree with the others in regards to switching between inputs is painfully slow. The TV takes approximately one minute to warm up unless the lamp is brand new. The cooling fan is loud...too loud, distractingly loud...so loud, I put acoustic padding behind the TV to absorb some of the sound. I'm not sure if the cable card functions well. Spiders can get in to put cobwebs in and there is no way to remove them, short of tearing apart the TV....annoying. Although I suspect "installer error", I have not been able to see the cable card functioning yet. Now that cable cards are in use more often, I may try again shortly as I would like to use my computer as a DVR vs. a DVR settop system.
Last thoughts:
This is a great value as long as you realize how short the bulb life seems to be. The inputs are fine for basic use and HDMI switches are easily found to deal with the lack of multiple HDMI inputs. I don't know about the audio as I have always used external speakers. The picture really is impressive. Although I've had it for several years, I have yet to see many other televisions that have a picture close to it on the DLP side.
