Strengths: Easy setup, easy use. The sound quality is fabulous, this baby can rock your world for quite a low cost in comparison. The carousel is fine.
DivX is supported also.
Weaknesses: No direct input on controller for TV/VCR/Digital, you have to cycle
Slow power on to show a message.
Fast Forward is tough, it's the same key as chapter skip!
Summary: This unit replaced multiple units from another manufacturer which kept failing. I purchased it 8-10 months ago and have loved it!
The XBox360 I keep around volume 9 (it goes to 50!) TV around 20.
It really is a great unit and if it died tomorrow I'd go get another one!
I've changed the wallpaper of the player :)
The fast forward is awkward. It's the same key as chapter skip and if you don't hold it long enough (for FF) then you skip the whole chapter which is annoying. You then hold it again for faster FF up to 32x I think.
Most annoying with Divx as it skips to the next movie!!!

Strengths: -Great Sound
-Great USB Feature
-Works VERY WELL with other features including an Xbox 360.
Weaknesses: -Fast Forwarding and Rewinding DVD's
Summary: 2006-03-13 14:15:40 First of all, This system was VERY easy to setup, its very user friendly. I was a bit surprised at first, I didnt expect this system to be so loud. The level "18" shakes my room, and this system goes all the way up to "50"!
The USB feature is quite useful, I had a song that I wanted to listen to on my USB flash drive, and just plugged it into this system, and listened to it. Also, the feature that allows you to put a wallpaper as your background for your system is pretty awesome.
Overall, This system is great for its price. The Sound, the 5 Disc DVD/CD progressive scan player, and all of the other features makes this system worth buying if all you need is an upgrade from your normal stereo TV sound. Also, I mainly bought this system for my Xbox 360. I wanted 5.1 Dolby Audio, and thats exactly what I got. Of course, if you want actual 5.1 Audio for your Xbox 360, you need to buy a Fiber optic cable.
But whether your an Extreme Gamer, someone who enjoys great sound for less, or a willing Dad tryin to give his family an excellent Home Theatre System, this is the one for you.

DO NOT BUY SAMSUNG DVD PLAYERS
Strengths: The sound works great.
Weaknesses: Will not play an entire movie without skipping.
Summary: I have this unit and it worked great for the first few months, but now every DVD I try to play skips, it doesn't matter if it's a burned disk or a brand new store bought movie, about an hour and fifteen minutes into the movie it begins to skip and then freezes completely. I have read alot of reviews on all types of samsung dvd players on different sites from people having the same exact problem. The worst thing is you probably won't even realize it until it's too late to return the item, then your only choice will be to send it back to samsung and get most likely get it back with the same problem, I mean if there was a fix why am I having the same problem that people had over a year ago. If you don't believe me do some research online you should have no problem finding reviews on Amazon or wherever saying the same thing about all types of Samsung dvd players. Seriously don't waste your money you don't want to feel as frustrated as I do right now.

Strengths: - Good Price around $210
- Samsung is a quality product
- 5.1 Theater has matrix, dolby and cineama modes.
Weaknesses: - Takes 3-5 seconds to turn on. It displays the welcome to Samsung Digital World Logo. It probably could be turned off and only it is a minor weakness. Annoying more than anything else.
Summary: I purchased the HT-P38 system in conjuction with the Samsung 61" HLR-65167W DLP TV and it is a nice fit. I was able to get the unit for $210 and added the 5 year protection program for $55 more. I was interested the USB feature that allows for connections to an ipod or USB thumb drive. (I have yet to test it out.) Setup was a breeze as everything is labled.
The two units look good together and I connected them with Pure AV audio cables. Ample speaker wire length allow me to hide the wires under the carpet. Sound quality is good but I am not home theater expert.
There are other systems with more features but for a home theather sound with a good quality name I would recommend this unit.

Strengths: Plenty of power,I put in star wars and my wife actually got scared as we were surrounded with sound. everything was nicely labeled.
Weaknesses: manual could have helped more on installation. they should take it for granted that you have never set up something like this before and mention things like having to hit aux on your TV.
Summary: This is an excellent system for the price. I literally prowled around on line reading reviews and looking at prices for 3-4 weeks until I chose this system. It seems to be the best you can get with the most power for around $199. It was a learning experience for me. I just assumed that the cable from the wall would go into it like it does a VCR but they do not work like that. if your TV does not have audio out then you must go through another device like a VCR which I did or you will not hear normal everyday TV shows through your new speakers just dvd's and cd's. Also, after hooking it all up there was no picture on the screen, just sound from the speakers when I played a dvd. I had to get out the old remote that came with my TV and hit the AUX button for the picture to come up on the screen.

Strengths: Very good power for the price - Enough for a medium size room. Divx capable. Good number of input and outputs. 5 DVD changer carousel works great. Cables nicely marked.
Weaknesses: The cables could have been longer.
Summary: For system priced under $200, this system does the job well. Samsung has improved on the quality over the years and this stands a proof for it.
You can't compare this with a Bose or Sony over $500, but when I put on Perl Harbor and The Perfect Storm DVDs, it really rocked the room.
I am not finding anything that is annoying or can't live with it so far.
I have been using Sony Dream System before and I am not missing it much.
Good luck to all who have this.. enjoy the power.

Unreliable playback
Strengths: Price, Sound and ability to play DivX & Xvid files
Weaknesses: After a while it freezes up during dvdr playback, no driver upgrades
Summary: Nice 5.1, great that it can handle DivX and Xvid files but craps out if you play a dvdr; gets about half way through then freezes! I had it repaired under warranty by United Radio Inc in Syracuse and it resolved the issue... until just after the expiry of 90 day warranty on the repair, when it crapped out again! This is a total gip!
PS Samsung have no plans to upgrade the software drivers (not sure if it's even possible) which sucks if you have stuff in newer formats like MPEG4 - H263
