Nice system but with drawbacks
Strengths: good strong bass with adequate wattage, 5disk dvd changer, easy of use. speech clarity
Weaknesses: lack of digital audio inputs, cannot play all dvd-r's (like phillips dvdr)
Summary: Overall I think this is a nice system and great sound. The speech is pretty clear as opposed to most systems in which the basss is loud but you can't really understand what people are saying. The 5disk dvd changer is definitely nice and convenient. And the bass is adequate. But don't mistaken this for a real home theater receiver system. It's not...it's for those people who want an easy system to setup and use. The thing that really bothers me about it is that is doesn't have any digital audio inputs so that i can plug in other dvd players or game systems like I would with a receiver. Another thing that bother me about it is that it seems a little picky about what dvdr's it will read. for example, it won't read phillips dvdrs so i had to reburn all my movies into other brand dvd-r (verbatim dvd-r works).

Strengths: Very good system, Easy to set up and works well with the ordinary television
Weaknesses: None
Summary: This is definitely worth a buy! The moment we got it, we did not waste a minute hooking it up to our TV. Customer service is great. The installation is very easy and straightforward. Sound quality is very good. Amplification and volume control is superior. This piece stands a class apart.

Strengths: -Looks good and great sound for the price
- Works with the wireless Module SH-FX50
Weaknesses: - Only 2 Audio Inputs!!
Summary: This system is a good value for the money. You can get this for less than $250 if you look around. It looks sleek in the living room and the sound is almost as good as the higher end HT9** series speakers. The biggest complaint I have is that it has only 2 Audion Inputs which is pathetic. I can only connect my Satellite receiver and my Roku soundbridge. NO inputs for my Xbox and Pinncale Showcenter. I would still recommned if you can get it for around $200.

Strengths: able to add wireless receiver for rear speakers, ability to hook up to multiple units
Weaknesses: cannot use speakers with any other receivers. Setup takes quite a bit of time (it did for me at least). HEAVY
Summary: I definitely enjoy this unit although this is my first home theater system. One thing i don't like is that the DVD player which you must use to use the speakers, does not support DIVX and a variety of other file types which my other DVD player does. The sound fromt he speakers is clear, although i'm surprised at how soft 800 watts actually sounds. It might be me or it might be the system. Another negative that annoys me is the setup of the remote. It's not as comfortable as my other remotes and you have to look really close to see what all the buttons are. Over all a nice quality product for the right price.

Good at under $200 / start system
Strengths: Easy to hook up, Stylish, good quality for the price
Weaknesses: ONLY 470 WATTS - DONT BE FOOLED, Can only hook 2 rca (stereo) audio sources into it (such as TV, VCR), no DIGITAL input, CANNOT use the DVD Player or speakers separately
Summary: First off, this is a great sounding system if you can grab it for less than $200 and don't need to hook much up to it. If your parents/grandparents or you just need a simple stand-alone dvd playing unit hooked up with a TV & VCR this is great. Don't be fooled by the "800 Watts" label though. There's this thing called Total Harmonic Distortion, which basically means how much of the signal will sound like garbage. At 800 Watts the THD is 10%...this is a LOT of bad noise. This set, if you go to Panasonic's web site is only 470 Watts at 1% THD (the industry-standard benchmark). Also, the "DVD Player/Receiver unit" and speakers hook directly into the subwoofer. This means you CAN NOT use the speakers or dvd player unit separately! Still plenty of wattage and features for a decent system, just do your homework before you buy to see what you really will want 1 or 2 years from now!

Great sound but no digital input
Strengths: Looks good, easy to set up, great sound, flawless with dvds,
good price
Weaknesses: No digital input
Summary: 2005-07-15 10:06:55 I bought this surround system and have been very happy with
it until I realized that I wasn't getting surround sound
when watching movies on cable, I asked my brother (who sets
up home entertainment systems for a living) why, he informed me that there is no way to have that with this system because it doesn't have a digital input and the sales guy at Circuit City concurred. I'm ticked, this system was perfect, why would they leave something like that out?
Now my wife is pissed because the Sony surround system I'm going to buy isn't "as pretty".

Strengths: Low Price, High Power, Low THD
Weaknesses: Not enough inputs, no digital in, wireless add-on expensive
Summary: I bought it for $150 and I think for that price it is a very decent home theater system. Very low budget compared to other systems, nice DVD changer, a lot of nice features. The receiver (which is really just a DVD changer) has only 2 RCA inputs, which was very disapointing, I wanted to connect from the optical out on my TV, but hey I still get the surround sound from RCA, so for the first system this is not bad. Over all this is a great system for the price. If you are looking for a good entry level system this is not a bad buy. If you are looking for something more advanced with the option to add components, look elsewhere.

Strengths: stylish
a variety of functions
affordable
Weaknesses: no digital input
Summary: I got this unit from Bestbuy when it was marked down to $149. The system is easy to set up. It looks stylish. Sound quality is pretty good to me with a total output of 800W. It plays a variety of media, with two audio inputs. So far I am satisfied with the purchase.

Strengths: Great speakers all around, surround sound effect. Compact, all in one system, easy to use.
Weaknesses: Subwoofer is boomy and boxy
Summary: Great speakers all around, surround sound effect. Compact, all in one system, easy to use. The surround speakers could use another two stands. I really enjoy movies and music CD. Subwoofer is weak, boomy and boxy when turn up the volume. Recommend for smallroom only.

Strengths: It is easy to setup and has very good sound quality with amazing bass.
Weaknesses: The drawback is the lack of a digital input. It only has a stereo input.
Summary: The system is a great buy. It is easy to set up as long as you follow up the manual. The ony drawback is it is lack of a digital input. It only has a stereo input. The sound of the system is amazing and I like the bass very much. Definitely a good first home theater system.

Strengths: EXCELLENT sound. Necessary for Home Theater
Weaknesses: They still use those wires to attach speakers??? Speakers are on the large side.
Summary: When we finally got everything together - Hitachi 42 inch Plasma and this Panasonic Home Theater System - which we chose since it had the rear wireless speaker capability - we bought the SH-FX50 and we chose this model over the SC-HT830V since it was only a DVD player - we popped Star Wars in there - and WOW. Setup was simple, putting everything together was easy - our biggest issue was getting the room configured the way we wanted it. It's a project installing one of these things - especially if you don't want wires everywhere!!! LOL. We took our time and the room looks good - it's a home theater. I really recommend if you've bought a Plasma or a LCD - or really any HD TV - get yourself a Home Theater System - this is a good choice. Otherwise, you really only enjoy half of it.
