1 Star ReviewDanger ! - Exploding Glass - Microwave glass spontaneously shattered
Strengths: Unit Looks nice, that's about it....
Weaknesses: Microwave oven door glass explodes spontaneously.
Summary: Danger, do not buy this unit, it could cause injury!

I was in the kitchen making coffee when the glass on the door of the microwave oven exploded for no reason. I had not used the unit for 2 days. We called Kitchen Aid and got the usual B.S. form their "customer no service" people. They claimed that it was our fault, the unit must have been installed wrong and that we slammed the door. They know they have a problem with this unit but refuse to do anything about it.

1 Star ReviewShattered Glass
Strengths: Looks nice
Weaknesses: Poor service
Summary: I wish I had read the reviews before I bought this unit. It was not a day after it was installed and the glass on the microwave shattered. Service from Kitchenaid is slow. It will be over three weeks before it is repaired. I guess that is the standard of this company... below par.

1 Star ReviewKEMS308 - Kitchenaid
Strengths: wouldn't recommend this oven
Weaknesses: Glass door shattered on the convection oven, which is the lower oven.
Summary: After baking in the oven which was purchased in August 2007, we opened the door and the glass just shattered spreading glass on the floor. I see most people had the door on the microwave explode, but I haven't seen other complaints about the oven door exploding. This is a fairly new model so I'm anxious to hear from KitchenAid and the service dept of the company where we purchased it.

1 Star ReviewSTAY AWAY FROM THIS OVEN!!!
Strengths: Top oven convection capability
Weaknesses: Microwave works worse than a $40 Whirlpool. Microwave glass spontaneously shattered when 3 months old.
Summary: For the price ($2609), this oven/microwave combination is a rip off. I have a $40 Whirlpool that heats quicker than the microwave in this unit. If you put a bag of popcorn in and press the popcorn button, the microwave works so poorly that it only pops about half of the kernels.

After being installed for about 3 months the outer glass on the microwave door shattered. The microwave hadn’t even been used in the last 4 hours when this happened. When the independent Kitchen Aid warranty service man came out to install the new glass, it shattered as he was putting it in. They are ordering another door, but this doesn’t solve the root cause of the problem.

I don’t really have any interest in replacing this glass every 3 months under warranty. I CLEARLY don’t have any interest in doing this outside of warranty.

Oh, and Home Depot Expo Design Center where I bought it has absolutely no interest in helping resolve the issue or replacing the item.

1 Star ReviewDo not buy----Shattered Glass everywhere
Strengths: NA
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: Had the same issue as the last two people. We were sitting at home and it sounded like someone threw a rock through our window. Turns out the glass shattered on the microwave for no apparent reason. We hadn't used the microwave all day! I can't believe that other's are having this issue and they haven't issued a re-call on the oven.

1 Star ReviewShattered Glass Door
Strengths: Looks nice, but...
Weaknesses: The KitchenAid Microwave Glass Door Shattered Spontaneously -- Shards of Glass Everywhere!
Summary: I had the same experience as the last reviewer. My KitchenAid microwave is only 6 months old. Last night, I heard a large crash as I was sleeping. When I investigated, I discovered that the microwave glass door had completely shattered. There was glass everywhere -- tiny pieces, large pieces. The microwave is used very lightly for the occasional defrost or cup of tea. And, the microwave had not been used for at least 3 hours when the glass spontaneously shattered. I called KA today. After nearly 30 minutes on hold, I spoke to someone in the Safety Department. KA is sending someone out in 3 days to "diagnose" the problem. I informed KA that I believed that this may be a public safety issue. I'll post an update when the "diagnosis" is complete.

2 Star ReviewMicrowave glass spontaneously shattered
Strengths: Looks good, matches other appliances
Weaknesses: Too many service calls
Summary: Sounds like a broken record, but after about 3 years of ownership, the outer glass on the microwave door spontaneously shattered. We had not even used the oven that day, and heard a loud pop. Went into the kitchen and found bits of glass all over the floor. This is the second out-of-warranty problem I've had, the first was a broken spring in the microwave door (about $100) and now this will be another $200. I suspect this must happen a lot because most of the online parts dealers are out of stock on the outer microwave glass for this model.

Called KitchenAid and got the typical "yeah, who cares?" attitude so I submitted a complaint to the Consumer Products Safety Commission.

If you have your heart set on this product, I would definitely buy the longest extended warranty available. We only use the oven about once a week, so it's ridiculous that there has been so much trouble with it. Hopefully they'll come out with a new model soon, but that won't help those of us who are stuck with one.

3 Star ReviewOven Glass Door Shattered
Strengths: Have had this unit for 4 years, no issues up until now
Weaknesses: Up until now there had been no issue.
Summary: My wife heated a pie in the oven at around 8 pm, all of a sudden at 10 PM the Glass oven door shattered sending glass all over the kitchen. This is outrageuos and I think this unit should be recalled, we need to go to Sean O'Shea and get Global News involved. Kitchen Aid will pay.

1 Star ReviewBuyer Prepare For Glass Explosion...
Strengths: Exploding glass did not get into anyone's eyes!!!!
Weaknesses: Oven SUPER heated and caused Microwave oven door to EXPLODE!!! BOOM!!!!!!!
Summary: tonight I have become the next Ralph Nader of KitchenAid Ovens. I am done. The only plus is that my family or company was not harmed by the exploding glass. I bought the 1st unit, KitchenAid Double Oven Model KEMC in January 2006 - Paid $2700!!! It never worked. After countless attempts to repair the unit, many letters, calls and Consumer Affiars investigations, it wasn't until I cancelled the credit card payment that someone took note. After 92 days, I was finally given another unit, same thing. I thought we were over this nightmare. Two months later, and fortunately under warranty, the door springs failed and I had to have them replaced. After 2 years of reliable service, I decided to NOT extend my warranty. Then , tonight, when cooking dinner in the lower oven, the upper door on the microwave EXPLODED!!!! Sending glass shrapnel everywhere. Please email me if you are having similar issues and are interested in a class action suit to get someone to pay attention to this and future quality. Tom_Cooper@SBCGLOBAL.net. Please email.

2 Star ReviewNo glass breaking yet
Strengths: Looks like it should work well.
Weaknesses: Doesn't work that well. Popcorn feature pops only a few kernels.
Summary: My wife and I just moved in to a house that has this oven installed (with a KEHC309 microwave). So, I'm definitely concerned about the reviews of glass breaking. I searched the CPSC for recalls and it looks like the microwave was never recalled for this reason (there was a recall for faulty wiring for serial #'s XR15-XR25, see www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/p...). I was wondering if anyone who contacted the CPSC ever got any update on the recall or if KitchenAid's "stance" on this issue has changed. Please reply or e-mail me at richmojm@yahoo.com if you have any info.

The microwave popcorn feature is worthless. Maybe we are spoiled; we used to have an LG where the popcorn feature worked perfectly.

Thanks,

Jay

1 Star Reviewworst appliance ever
Strengths: looks
Weaknesses: every thing else.
Summary: microwave design requires removal of appliance to replace the LIGHT BULB in the microwave. pulley system to operate door has broken TWICE.

The control panel went out and had to be replaced and the glass in the oven door cracked.

terrible customer service with a "too bad" mentality. sorry you were stupid enough to buy a kitchenaid

2 Star ReviewShattered Glass - microwave door
Strengths: Looks good
Weaknesses: Hidden defect
Summary: Glass Shattered for no reason at all. Judging by the number of posts with the same issue, this is definitely a product defect. It will happen to you if you buy this unit!
