Strengths: This card suprised me. I have another brand of high powered wireless adapter that is rated very high. This card performed better than expected. Plus it has built in ant and ext ant capability. A+++
Weaknesses: XP wireless config does not do well with SMC products as others I have tried.
Summary: I have used several brands of 200mw 802.11b wireless adapters. One brand I use is considered better than this

card. So I was hesitant in my purchase of the SMC 2532.

It turned out to my surprise that this card came with a removable internal antenna and possed MMCX connectors for external. The other high powered wireless card. Which was more expensive. Could only be purchased with either internal or external not both. So far this card has performed as well as the other card. Which I did not expect. The only issue has been SMC and XP wireless config. This card works best using SMC's software and not XP's wireless tool. So if you buy this card save yourself a lot of trouble and use SMC software. I will be purchasing more of these. It is an excellent product.

Strengths: Excellent sensitivity, dual RP-MMCX connector
Weaknesses: Software/Drivers/Firmware - Who knows?
Summary: The AP I connect to is ~1500 ft away (Academic wireless network). With my old Belkin FD6020, I had to leave the window open. Not with the SMC-- doesn't matter whether the window is open or closed.

However, card doesn't work with Windows 98/Me ICS or WinRoute under any circumstances. Also, the card has trouble with multiple APs and/or BSSIDs. Not sure which. They symptom is an inability to access DHCP or accept a manually confired IP when switching from one network to another then back. Will work with the second netowrk, but not the first, unless the AP is rebooted.

Strengths: Easy to setup, performance is good.
Weaknesses: antenna breaks easily and unavailable for replacement, tech support is helpless.
Summary: I was excited about the card from the beginning since it differs from other cards in that way

that it is a high power output unit. However, I had one problem with it and a comment.

First, the detachable antenna is extremely flimpsy. If you plan to leave the card inside

your laptop, to reduce wear ant tear, don't. You will break the antenna eventually.

The worse thing is that SMC does NOT sell you a replacement antenna. At this point,

either you throw the card away or get an external antenna from a third party antenna specialist.

I also notice that most of the access point's output is only about 30mW. So, what is the

point of having a hight output client if your AP is only a low power output unit?

You can reach the AP but the AP can't reach you if you are far away.

Strengths: This card is great. It is ideal for those of us that have an old laptop we keep in the car. It is 16 bit, and not cardbus, so it works with my ancient Toshiba 730cdt.
Weaknesses: None
Summary: The ($ 15.00) external antenna allows you to keep in touch with even the weakest of networks. Its a must buy for those of us with dated machines. If you have been having problems finding a card to work in your older machine try the SMC. It is not a cardbus adapter, it is based on the true PCMCIA standard orginally placed in laptops. This adapter is based on the Prism chipset, and there is even a driver on the Aminet for the Amiga computer.

Strengths: works with hostap in linux for use as access point
Weaknesses: Antenna connections would be better if an smc style (threaded)rather than mmcx.
Summary: I run a wireless isp and this card in conjuction with the soekris 4521 pc board is used to build out access points.

This is a very reliable card that has worked well for us.

Strengths: Awesome Rx and Tx. Picks up and reliably operates on wireless network most cards can't even hear or see. Cheap, cheap, cheap. Any other card that can do 200mW costs at least twice! Dual RP-MMCX.
Weaknesses: You can break off the antenna, but that does give you motivation to get a professional omni-directional that will about 1/2 mile to your range.
Summary: Awesome card (read Strengths & Weaknesses). If you kill it, just buy a new one, it is cheap enough (not like other cheapos last longer, try Linksys product, you will kill it in 3 months).
