Read More Description: Deep Blacks, Bright Whites, and 8.58 Billion Colors.The realism of a TV's image is strongly linked to its contrast ratio, and this plasma features a high contrast ratio of up to 3000:12. Such a wide range from black to white means great depth and dimensionality with vibrant colors?and this plasma can display an incredible 8.58 billion colors for a superior picture. Deep blacks provide excellent shadow detail during dark scenes, while brilliant whites allow this plasma to render bright scenes with vivid realism.View Digital Programming Without A Cable Box.Panasonic plasma HDTVs with CableCARD slots can accept a small card that allows you to receive standard definition and high definition digital broadcasts. No bulky set-top cable box?perfect for a wall-mounted plasma TV. Contact your cable company to find out if they offer this service in your area.Receive Over-The-Air HDTV Broadcasts.Sports, movies, and original network programming are all available in high definition from many local broadcasters. Receive and view local over-the-air broadcasts on this plasma in stunning HDTV clarity using the built-in HDTV tuner. If your cable company passes through HDTV broadcasts from local broadcasters, you can decode and tune those as well.A Single Cable Carries High-Quality Digital Audio and Video. If you have even a moderately complicated home theater setup, you probably have a pile of tangled cables on the floor behind it. Imagine replacing all those cables with a single cable that carries both digital video and audio at the same time. With the new HDMI standard, that's exactly what you get. The HDMI connector on this TV accepts high-quality digital video and audio via the same thin cable, allowing you to run one cable from the source to the TV.A Cinema-Style Viewing Experience At Home.This widescreen TV features a width-to-height ratio similar to movie theater screens, providing a theater-like experience at home. View HDTV broadcasts and widescreen DVDs the way they were meant to be seen.Crisp, Lifelike Details.HDTV broadcasts and DVDs offer more detail and better color than analog broadcasts, and it takes a high-resolution display to deliver all that picture information. The high pixel count of this plasma display provides fine detail for outstanding HDTV reproduction. More pixels also translate into less stair-stepping artifacts; curved and diagonal edges look smooth and natural. Minimize |

Strengths: black level, clarity, sharpness, etc.
Weaknesses: only one HDMI input, no PIP
Summary: Great Plasma TV on the market. I have done extensive research on plasma TV and LCD. I have choosen this one because most everyone says Panasonic has the best picture quality. I was kind of concern of the power consumption from Plasma. I plugged it in a Belkin 1500AMP UPS and the cost of electric bill is still the same as the old traditional TV.
One of the most concern of Plasma TV is the burn-in issue that turn other people in buying LCD. I took the tips from experts by turn down the contrast and bright level setting down to 50%. Never had any problem of watching football games on CBS and ESPN with that scoring lable. With contrast and brightness down to 50%, it's still so bright and clear with this Panasonic model.
Another thing is that when watching this Plasma TV at 45 degrees angle and up, you can see it clearly. With LCD, you can see a cloudy coat of color.
The sound system of this TV is not so great because it's only 30watts.

Strengths: Picture Quality
Weaknesses: None
Summary: 2006-02-27 09:36:56 We've had a Panasonic TH-37PWD6UY since 12-2004. Although it's only an HD compatible ED monitor, we view it in our bedroom from about 13' with an HD signal (Comcast) and the picture is fantastic. Believe the hype - Panasonic plasma panels really do have the best contrast and truest colors of any on the market.
* * * *
We like the TH-37PWD6UY so much that we just bought a TH-37PX50U for our bar, where it will be viewed from about 11'. However, because I as the bartender will view it from 8' or less, we went with the HD panel instead of another ED panel, which would have been much, much less expensive. In our bedroom, we use a cable box, DVD player/recorder and sound system with the monitor, but in the bar we wanted the setup to be as clean as possible, so we use a cable card in the television. As a result, no extraneous equipment is needed. The coaxial and electrical cables are concealed within the wall, so the television alone appears on the wall.
* * * *
And the TH-37PX50U looks absolutely gorgeous in the space! From within 10', the higher resolution of the HD panel is evident, and it has the same if not better contrast and colors as our ED panel. For our purpose, which is mainly watching sporting events (Go Chicago Bears and White Sox!) while drinking beer, the television's speakers are more than sufficient.
* * * *
We are not computer gamers and prefer laptop computers, so we do not care that the TH-37PX50U does not have a computer input. If you want to use your television as a computer monitor, I strongly suggest that you buy an LCD panel, instead of a plasma panel. However, for television viewing from all angles, LCD panels cannot match good plasma panels. We use a cable card and do not want to hook up any extraneous equipment, so a lack of other inputs is also not an issue to us. We have not found burn-in to be a problem with our TH-37PWD6UY and Panasonic claims to have improved the burn-in resistance of the phosphors in its panels, so we do not anticipate any burn-in issues with our TH-37PX50U. In regard to price, we bought the TH-37PX50U from Best Buy for $2,137.50, not including sales tax. We picked it up at a store, so there was no shipping charge. For our money, there are no other flat panel HD televisions with comparable picture quality for that price, whether plasma or LCD.

Very expensive set
Strengths: Good PQ,
Weaknesses: Expensive, No pip, etc.
Summary: Although this set has good piture quality, the price is very high for 37" sets without Picture in Picture, PC input. Its speaker also can't be detachable. Very heavy and high power consumption. Ugly style design.

Pay full function price, but miss many
Strengths: Good TV quality, realizable size, HDTV turner.
Weaknesses: High price, miss many functions
Summary: Pay full functions price, but miss many, such as PIP, PC input. If the price range of the set is between $1100 and $1500, it is realizable. Right now, the price of LCD TV 37" already drops under $1100. Do you want to spend $1000 more for this set?

37"-42" LCD panel's price already drop down about ...
Strengths: ATSC turner, 720p/1080i, High black level
Weaknesses: High Price, No PIP, No PC Input, Ugly stand, High power consuption, Low brightness, Undetachable Speaker
Summary: 37"-42" LCD panel's price already drop down about $800. But 37-42" plasma and LCD TV's prices are still very high (over $2000). So, many people buy rear projection TV to replace high price LCD and plasma.

Strengths: Excellent picture quality, smallest plasma set available
Weaknesses: no computer input, only one digital output
Summary: Perfect size for our bedroom, fits in our armoire. Best quality picture out there, especially when watching regular analog signals. LCD's have much poorere quality when viewing analog signals due to scaling of picture. If you want a TV to watch HDTV, analog signals and DVD's then this is the one. With limited HDTV channels available, most of what you watch is analog. Also the justify mode only stretches the sides of the picture, not the center, you get very little distortion when watching 4:3 aspect in full screen. HDTV picture is mind blowing. Speakers are fair, just run a digital audio cable to your DVD and use surround sound...perfect...Paid about 2100 at BB
