Strengths: Very compact, great sound, well designed for travel.
Weaknesses: iPod mini will not fit in the dock connector of the iMmini if you are using a silicon case. A carrying bag or case would have also been a nice addition
Summary: I found the iMmini to be everything advertised. It is a small from factor that when closed is about the size of a small book (about 1" thick). The speakers themselves are protected by a white plastic cover that is easily removed. Underneath are the speakers and a button that when pushed allows the connector that holds the iPod Mini to drop down and a "picture frame" like leg to be released from the back of the unit. This allows the speakers and the iPod to sit upright, with a slight backward angle.

The iMmini ships with a set of interchangeable outlet plugs that makes the unit fully functional in any international setting. It also comes with a separate audio cable that will allow you to connect it to any number of devices that can make use of a set of external speakers, including a full size iPod.

Another nice feature of the iMmini is that it can double as an iPod Dock. By using the supplied power adapter and an iPod connector cable (USB or Firewire) the iPod mini can be charging and synching with iTunes. A nice feature if you do not currently have an iPod Dock.

Although the speakers are small, the sound is very rich with ample bass. While the iMmini should not be mistaken as equivalent to a full featured audio system, it is a great alternative to using headphones and works quite nicely on a desk, bedroom, or hotel room.

All in all I would highly recommend this product for anyone looking for a very portable speaker solution for their iPod mini, or even a full size iPod although the later can only be connected with the supplied audio cable.

Strengths: It is small, portable, easy to use, looks nice, has option to use batteries or standard wall outlet, charges Ipod while using
Weaknesses: Not quite as loud as Iwould have liked
Summary: I think overall this is a great product. I use mine all the time. Since it is so small and portable I can take it with me in the bathroom while I shower, all around the house while I clean or to the park. I love that you can run it off batteries if you want. I think that it does not get THAT loud but it is a small machine so I guess what can you expect. It does have nice sound though for the compactness of it. It is clear sound. The Ipod mini just docks right on it and charges it while you use it which means I use mine as a wall charger also.

Strengths: plays cd, cd mp3 and Ipod nano.
Weaknesses: doesn't play sansa m240 mp3 player
Summary: Just bought this great speakers yesterday. i was expecting a quite big package. But the UPS driver handed me a cd-mp3 size case. I was really excited by its size - the entire system fits into my palm. Sound was really great. I have a creative 3300 PC speakers for my desktop. I was not expecting this to sound like that, but I was expecting quite very little. But this one beats my expectation. Sound was extremely great from this very tiny speakers.

I was also not sure whether it plays Ipod nano. It fits greatly and the bass is also great. I live in an 2 bed room decent size apartment. With this system I can hear from any corner of the apartment. Some reviews complained about some distortion while the volume is very high. I tend to agree with that (but very little - not bad at all), but that doesn't stop me from giving five stars for its excellent sound (thats the main purpose of the speakers, right?)

Later in the evening, I want to try it with my sony atrac cd-mp3. I was really amazed that the sound quality was better than the Ipod Nano. Hence my mp3 burned cds doesn't really go any waste. Buy website have these systems for just 10 bucks after google checkout which itself is a great deal for this tiny excellent player- I order 2, we have one in the kitchen (Ipod) and bathroom (cd-mp3 player). Great sound - occupies very little space. Now my Ipod Nano and cd-mp3 which sits ideally in the house has potential use hereafter.

Other Pros is

1. It is definitely travel friendly. It comes along with different plugs for different countries, which is good. I will gift one of this to my relatives back in Asia when I visit them.

2. Also, the cable which connects the system and external cd-mp3 player or cd player is great. It is quite short but adjustable.

3. It charges the Ipod Nano. So whenever I need to go for jogging this helps.

Cons:

I have sansa m240 1gb mp3 player and this system doesn't play that.

Last advise: Don't compare with Bose systems, you will be disappointed!

For the price I paid (10) this is an excellent system with great sound quality.

The reason I am writing this very lengthy review is because while I searched for few things in other reviews, I couldn't get the answer for many of my questions. Hope this will be helpful to many. I will post couple of snaps in amazon. Check that too.

Enjoy music with this sleek stylish system!!!

Strengths: Styled to complement Apple's iPod; efficient digital amplifier; AC or battery powered; charges your iPod's battery; can accept input from non-iPod players.
Weaknesses: Heavy bass overloads speakers; very inexpensive adapter recommended for use with iPod Mini; doesn't work with original (nondocking) iPod.
Summary: Altec's Apple-esque desktop iPod speaker system sounds sweet.

Let's face it: most silver plastic portable speakers look a little cheap. But the design of Altec Lansing's InMotion speaker set matches the white iPods' perfectly, and its sound is decent. This package is more expensive than most of its microspeaker competitors; it retails for $150, though most of our friends guessed it sold for $200 or so.

Obviously, Altec Lansing targeted the InMotion at the burgeoning iPod-accessory market, but it can be coupled with laptops or any other portable audio device through its stereo minijack. Current-generation iPods that connect via a docking port have an extra advantage when used in conjunction with the InMotion: plugged into an AC adapter, it charges your iPod's battery, so you needn't bring your iPod charger along (the Mini requires a $3 adapter for this). Alternately, you can run the InMotion from four AA batteries, not included.

The InMotion's four titanium microdrivers (two per channel) are powered by an efficient digital amplifier. The speakers are canted back a few degrees to direct the sound up toward your ears. With the 15-ounce system folded up to protect the speakers, it measures 8 by 5.4 by 1.2 inches.

The Grateful Dead's American Beauty CD sounded sweet and fairly natural. Acoustic rock and jazz were enjoyable, but more aggressive music quickly revealed the limitations of the tiny speakers. That said, the InMotion handily beat out all the other portable speakers we had on hand, which are even more bass limited than the InMotion. Bass-heavy music made the InMotion's speakers buzz and distort, but when we turned down the volume, the buzzing sounds disappeared. This problem is pandemic among portable speakers, so we can't knock the InMotion much for its lack of bass.

If the InMotion is out of your price range, check out Creative's TravelSound kit. Its refined output is comparable with the InMotion's, but it sounds a bit thinner, and the system doesn't look as cool paired with an iPod.

Strengths: Compact size and convenience; docking/recharging factor; good clean sound
Weaknesses: no remote; small plastic prop for stand could break off
Summary: I just got my IMMini and I really like it, mostly for the convenience of size, and the docking/recharging factor. At first I played it a little too loud in a large room and experienced some distortion on Bonnie Raitt's vocals, however once I turned the volume down and tested it in a smaller room it was quite clear sound and decent bass. I purchased it for my office at work, and for use in hotel rooms and/or cruise cabins. I am very pleased.

Strengths: Size, sound, Ipod charger, multiple plugs and also works with batteries
Weaknesses: sounds a little scratchy when it's all the way up
Summary: Love this product! I was surprised how great it sounded considering how small it is. About the size of a DVD case, just a little thicker. It also came with different plugs so you can use this thing all over the world! Will also charge your Ipod. Sets up really easily, worked great right away with my Mini. Even includes a survey postcard that you can fill out and Altec Lansing will extend your warranty to 2 years.

Strengths: sound quality, recharging capabilities
Weaknesses: none
Summary: This is a great speaker system. The quality is much better than I anticipated. You can even hear some bass, which is incredible for speakers of this size (and price!!). I highly recommend this product. Granted, I have only been using it for a couple of days, but as far as first impressions go, it is a winner.

Strengths: They sound remarkably good to be so small and inexpensive. Easy to use.
Weaknesses: can't find any Actually, there is one. If you are using the iPod Classic 6th gen, you have to use the adapter (which does compromise the sound a bit) or you can modify as described below.
Summary: 2008-06-23 14:41:01 I'm not saying they are comparable to Bose but they DO sound good, especially if you are an adult listener who does not find it necessary to crank them up to max. volume. The price was REALLY nice. I bought two sets.

The modification so that this unit works with the 6th Gen iPod involves snipping off the small plastic tabs on the ouside edge of the dock that serve no real purpose. If you get them snipped close enough to flush with the rest of the dock, the iPod classic 6th gen works just fine.

Strengths: - inexpensive relative to competitors; - charges your ipod while it's dock; - great match in color for a silver iPod Mini; - slim and portable
Weaknesses: - compared to a larger unit, the sound for these speakers cannot compare; however, it is good relative to it's size; - no remote
Summary: I've used these set of speakers for the last week or so, and it's done everything advertised. It's slim and portable, and the sound is good relative to speaker size. It's also great that it charges the iPod while docked. Although the store I bought this from mentions it's compatible with the nano, I think this is best suited for the iPod Minis, especially the sliver one for the matching color scheme.

Strengths: Small, easy to transport, recharges Ipod Mini while it plays.
Weaknesses: Sound at the high volume level is a bit distorted.
Summary: Purchased this unit for my wife to use with her Ipod Mini, so far the unit is great, she takes it out on the patio and uses it while she is in the back yard with our daughter. She says as long as the volume isn't up all the way the sound is great. For the price this is a great deal.

Strengths: Small and compact
Weaknesses: distortion if played at high volumes
Summary: These speakers are great if you travel or listen in a small room. It also comes with extra conversion outlets if you decide to travel to other countries and the entire unit actually folds up into a very thin tablet.

Strengths: Great Sound Quality, Lightweight
Weaknesses: Plastic support mechanism seems fragile
Summary: I purchased this unit online at a "blowout" sale so my expectations were quite different from other reviewers. Leave it to Altec Lansing to build a product with great sound quality - I would expect nothing less.

The unit is so lightweight that I fear it may be fragile. The unit doubles as a charger for your iPod and is compatible with both the Mini and Nano.

If I paid full retail I would have expected a remote, carrying case, and larger sound from the speakers but at a blowout price it rocks! (I would not purchase this product at full retail but at a 'sale' price it is great.)

Strengths: Good sound, small speaker, long battery life
Weaknesses: ONLY for IPod mini, no remote control
Summary: The IMMini speakers are tiny, which are perfect for travel or use on laptop. The sound is pretty good for such small speakers. Also it has 110-240v adapter and comes with four different plugs for different countries, which is really a bonus for travels. Besides, it provides secondary input jack for connection with other audio devices, so I can use other MP3 players on these speakers.

The built-in Docking Station provides same synchronization, data transfer, and recharging options as the iPod dock, which saves some money for buying the dock. The bass is quite good thanks to the MaxxBass technology, but it is just good for use in small room. The battery life is good, lasting about 20 hours with four AA batteries. Overall, I am very happy with the speakers!

Strengths: Compact size perfect for travel or work, variety of charging/sync options including USB and AC, aux. in connection, snap on cover for safe storage, international plug set for international travel
Weaknesses: Lacks carry case or pouch, no remote
Summary: The iPod accessory market is being joined by some respectable names. Altec Lansing enters the fray with their iM line, including the iMmini designed especially for the iPod mini. This compact portable speaker includes a dock connector to seat the iPod while playing. The dock connector can also synchronize with iTunes when connected to your PC with the Apple USB connector that came with your iPod. The unit charges your iPod while it is docked, and gets it's power either via. USB or AC power (USB would require using the Apple AC adapter and the Apple USB cable).

The sound of the speaker is excellent, despite it's diminutive size. The sound is rich and full with a ample bass. While it is not a replacement for a bookshelf mini system, it is an excellent desktop speaker set that it suitable for work or travel.

The speakers are provided with a complete set of international plugs that can be slid on and off of the adapter for use in other countries. This is an excellent selling point for road warriors. Another nice feature for the traveller is the included snap on cover, which protects the speakers and dock connections while stored in a desk at work or stored in your carry-on luggage on a trip around the World. A soft or padded case would have been nice, but this is certainly sufficient.

One feature that I found especially valuable is the aux. in jack, which allows other 'non-iPod' devices to be run through these speakers as well. Everything from a competitors MP3 player to a Walkman-type CD player to your notebook computer's aux. out can be played through these speakers. It does everything!

The only item that I found to be missing from this product was a small remote. Most competitors products include a remote for basic functions (play/stop/forward/backwards). This was an unfortunate accessory to not include, but nonetheless it did not negatively impact my overall impression of the product.

We purchased this at a major B&M retailer for $79, although I have seen it advertised for $99 or more online and at other merchants. My wife uses it on her desk at work and hides it folded flat in her drawer at night. The sound and product quality are a bargain for the low price we paid. It was worth every cent!
