Strengths: Great color quality. Very fast from warm up to print for color and b/w(i.e. 30 full color flyers in 5 minutes from the time I hit the print button on a computer on the wireless network). Very simple setup is also a plus. Low cost of ownership!
Weaknesses: It's heavy, but once you put it where you need it, that weakness is very minimal, unless of course you're OCD and change your office around once a week. Otherwise, I do get these white boxes around some images, but I honestly believe it's due to my er
Summary: This is a great printer for my needs which consist of about 300 full color flyer per month and about 15, 15 page color presentations per month. I think it is a great printer for a small to medium business, or even a sole-propieter. Overall, its consistency, quality, and speed completely outway any hindrances such as weight or the weird white box around some images(and I'm sure that's a problem on my end since it only seems to happen with images where I have altered the background.)

Great printer, and I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great color laser at a great price.

Strengths: Price paid less than $300, Network ready, driver installation to multiple LAN computers was a breeze with the included software.
Weaknesses: Big equipment, available memory size, figuring out how to insert toner. Instructions and manual is not detailed enough
Summary: I purchased this for my office for a couple of reason. The price was good and toner supposed to last 4000 pages (so they say). This printer was installed as a networked printer and setup was a breeze. IP address was obtained through DHCP without any problems, and using the available software/driver cd to install drivers on our LAN computers was all done from my latop computer. Definitely made my job easier. Also I was able to manage the printer setting and status w/o being in front of the Printers control panel. I just type in the printer's IP address in IE to browse through the setup and status monitoring. Print speed was moderately good and quality is much sharper than the inkjet it replaced. So far toner level is still at 100% after printing 200+ pages. When the price is right and the functionality is good, I say this is a definitely a good recommendation (as long as you have enough space for this hugh monstrosity).

2 Star ReviewTonor/Print Smudging
Strengths: Fast, good quality with graphics
Weaknesses: Scraping or smudging through color print jobs.
Summary: This printer is about 1 year old. It has worked great, but after about 20,000 copies, it now produces color prints with smudges running from top to bottom of pages. It appears to be a roller problem, but after contacting Dell, they say this is a drum problem. As I explained to the Dell representative, this problem has occurred before and after multiple drum replacements, AND it is also happening on our second 3100cn. The drums have been replaced multiple times -- the problem has not gone away.

It's a good printer, but personally speaking I would consider carefully whether to purchase again for moderately heavy printing. But with a $400 cost, it's a tough choice.

Strengths: it prints b&w text ok
Weaknesses: toners only from DELL, poor graphics and photo, text fuzzy with lower size fonts.
Summary: This printer is not suitable for business use. It is good for students and casual use, but you don't want to print client proposals and brochures on this printer.

Cheap and for a reason.

Dell support is very poor, they just want your money and offer nothing back.

We had 3100 and 5100, both are medicare printers.

For serious work, go with HP or Minolta.
