Strengths: Superb picture quality, excellent picture enhancement features.
Weaknesses: Shiny, black plastic border around picture area results in distractions from reflections of bright objects in room.
Summary: Compared to our old non-flat, standard TV, the picture quality improvement is like night and day. In addition, the set weighs only 20 pounds which makes it convenient to set up or relocate.

This is an excellent product from all standpoints. In addition to exceptional picture quality, it has a sufficient number of external connections with various formats to interconnect with other devices such as DVD and tape players, external audio systems, etc.

Although the LN-R328W includes a built-in PIP (Picture In Picture) feature, it lacks an additional tuner which precludes simultaneous viewing of a second TV channel.

Overall, the unit is very competitive from both a quality and price standpoint.

2 Star ReviewGood picture great price but slow service from Samsung
Strengths: Good picture, great price, perfect size for a south Philly home,
Weaknesses: Tv broke on the 40th day!!!
Summary: This tv is great, but on the 40th day I noticed something wrong with the picture. As time went on the picture got worse. It was a distorted picture. As time would pass the picture returned to normal. By the 45th day the picture was not returning to normal. Called Samsung and they sent out a technician. Technician attempted to repair tv but it was not repairable. Samsung after 2 weeks decided that they would send me a new tv. It is now about 3 weeks and I still haven't seen my new tv. Called Samsung and was told that the tv would arive in New Jersey about Feb 8th and that when it arrives it will take about 2 to 3 days after it arrives to get it to me. When it arrives it would be about 1 month without a tv. This year I have to go out to watch the superbowl. Next time I think I will probably buy the Sony Bravia model.

Strengths: Sharp picture, bright colors, great contrast, lots of inputs. All component inputs support all resolutions. Beautiful and compact chasis, Great price for comparable units.
Weaknesses: Base stand is not as rigid as I'd like, but is still plenty solid. Cable management could be better, but is ok. Dynamic Brightness feature is not so great for video games, but excellent for movies.
Summary: 2005-05-07 20:19:31 I was surprised that no one had reviewed this television.

This TV is GREAT. I can't begin to tell how pleased I am with it's performance. Beautiful picture, crystal clear (pun intended), and bright. Let me first say that my two primary uses are Video games and movies. I do not watch television, so i can't say how this television responds to television signals, of any type. However, based on my experience with this television, here's what I can tell you:

The 12ms response time on a screen this large is fantastic. The quick response time makes this an ideal television for fast paced games. I was not able to see any ghosting whatsoever. Video games that support higher resolutions look amazing. The only down side to using this television for video games is the dynamic brightness feature. The signal from video games is different than normal television, so it would stand to reason that the dynamic brightness feature won't behave the same when presented with this type of signal. With dynamic brightness enabled, the brightness would change at moments when it shouldn't have, and didn't when it should have. I encountered one instance where the brightness began to change, (higher and lower) while navigating through game menus (which is as close to a static image as you'll get in modern video games). Other times, during game play, when going from dark area of the game to brighter areas, there was no shift in brightness. The solution? Turn off dynamic brightness for video games. Simple as that. The TV still looks fantastic.

The dynamic brightness feature, when used on movies, however, was great. Worked like a charm. If one looked closely enough, though, you are able to see the brightness shift when the picture changes. If you're picky (and I am), this can be annoying, although, in the end, I chose to enjoy the benefits of this feature, instead of worrying about the negatives. Two friends of mine did not even notice the brightness shift, until I told them to look for it. However, were you to have this TV, and just never use the dynamic brightness feature (which is a mistake, if you ask me), this would still be a stellar TV to own.

The movies tested were The Matrix, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, and The Postman. Now, most of the DVDs that are published these days, aren't designed for the home-theater viewing experience: they are designed for home use, plainly put. They aren't encoded as high as they could be, and are literally just a run-of-the-mill, movie-to-DVD production release. On these standard run-of-the-mill releases, it's really easy to see where improvements could have been made. The most tell-tale sign of one of these DVDs is a grainy picture. Now, on a standard 4:3 tube television, this will be hard to see, which is precisely the point. However on the wide screen of this LCD panel, the graininess is plain as day, and sadly, The Postman was one of these movies. Likely encoded at no more than 480p, the graininess was easy to see, and thus, was only exacerbated when trying to up-sample the output resolution (from the DVD deck) to 720p, or 1080i. This TV shows enough detail to let you know how much or how little work Hollywood has put into the DVD release of your favorite movie.

The Matrix and Episode V, however, obviously were designed for the DVD enthusiast, as evidenced by the fantastic picture displayed from each. I can't say enough about how great viewing each of these DVD movies on this HD LCD TV was. Picture was crisp; motion was fluid, no jittering, and no ghosting, excellent over all viewing experience. Basically, this exercise taught me to be more selective about the DVDs I buy. Form now on, if there is a "Super bit" version of the movie I want to buy available, I will buy it and spend the extra money, because I can rest assured that the viewing experience will be fantastic on my Samsung 32" LCD.

As with all LCDs, the blacks are not as black as you like them to be, but compared to other similar LCDs, this one was about as black as they get, which was plenty enough for me. Viewing The Matrix on this TV, or any other movie with lots of blacks, when looked at by the scrutinizing eye, it's easy to see where LCD technology falls short in this regard. However, when watching an entertaining movie, the black issue will be easy to forget about.

Once again, the blacks are the major fallback of ALL LCDs, but from the pool of LCD TVs I have looked at, this TV was easily the darkest.

The TV has a great price point, and came with all sorts of stuff, including a manual that puts the page count of most novels to shame, but most importantly, a cleaning cloth! The cleaning cloth was a VERY welcome bonus. Well done, Samsung.

Overall, I'm so glad I bought this TV, and would buy it again. I would also recommend this TV to anyone interested in a medium-large to large sized LCD TV. Great, fantastic, excellent, beautiful, superb: all words I'd use to descri

Strengths: Easy to set-up and use. Great picture. Stylish. Muliple connections to other devices - HDMI. I love it. Excellent value.
Weaknesses: Sound is not ideal, but still adequate.
Summary: I researched many different brands, types and sizes of flat screens. This size worked best for my current configuration. The picture quality is outstanding, especially when compared to other 32" LCD side-by-side at Circuit City or Best Buy. You get a lot of bang for your buck...

Strengths: Elegant, sleek design - absurdly pleasing to the eye. Great picture, especially with the ability to set your own custom controls for color, sharpness, contrast, etc. Fully XBox 360 and PS3 ready!
Weaknesses: Does not display 1080p; shows the limitation of input (DVD, etc), like any high quality HDTV (garbage in, garbage out).
Summary: When I first laid my eyes on this baby in person - without even doing any research - I pretty well knew I was going to plank down the cash! The shape, size and contour of the jet-black shiny borders surrounding a gorgeous 32' display complete with vibrant, lush colours, nearly had me reaching for my wallet (knowing that trusty credit card was seated in front of my drivers licence, just waiting...). Nonetheless, I had to do some research first. This 16:9 32' Widescreen LCD weighs in at less than 40lbs, comes complete with a 3000:1 contrast ratio, 12 ms response time and 1366 x 768 (WXGA) native resolution. There were few reviews, but all were quite favorable - I could have waited and played it safe but sometimes it's better to go with your gut instinct and with what your eyes are telling you.

When I first set up my Samsung LCD, I was very pleased with the impression of size it gives. It's quite a large display, without being an eye sore. It has a sleek, elegant design and seems more like a handsome piece of furniture than a TV; I plan to mount her on the wall soon (no laughing, please!). With cable television, as expected, some channels look pretty good (pretty being a relative term), while others don't. I'm sitting roughly 5-6 feet away (I like to sit pretty close). I have watched 11 DVD's thus far, and was quite impressed with how the LCD handles both dark and bright scenes. The old concern about response time is dead with this LCD as it handles the most instense, face-paced, fast-moving action sequences with ease.

I hooked the Samsung up to my PC and found it to be very impressive, overall. I downloaded some HD DIVX clips and was shocked by the clarity of the picture. With HD material, this LCD really shines! Handling of contrast is better, and the picture is razor-sharp. I can't wait for Blue-ray (or HD) discs!

The sound is very good for 'TV' speakers and comes in different pre-sets (Movie, music, speech, etc). Naturally, you're going to want to hook this up to as good a pair (or set) of speakers possible, to round out your audio-video experience.

I'm very happy with my purchase and can't recommend it more.

Now, I am anxiously awaiting the release of the XBox 360 and the PS3 - and let's not forget, Blue-ray!

Strengths: Beautiful picture, brilliant color, lightweight
Weaknesses: When viewed from an angle the color fads
Summary: Probably the best LCD on the market. Beautiful picture and some of the best color I've seen. Easy to operate, but I had a little trouble hooking up my DVD/VCR player to the TV. Called Samsung and the technical support solved my problem quickly and easily. BUY IT.

Strengths: 3000:1 Contrast, Great price compared to other good brand LCDs, 12m/s refresh rate, sharp colors
Weaknesses: Takes a few seconds for it to turn on. Only 2 component hook-ups
Summary: 2005-07-02 15:09:32 This is one beautiful TV. If you are in the market for a 32" LCD I highly recommend it over any other LCD. The 3000:1 contrast level cannot be beat by other LCD's. Before I bought this TV, I'd often go to the electronics store to compare all the LCD's and Samsung LNR models always looked the sharpest, crispest and brightest as compared to the likes of Sharp, Toshibia, Viewsonic and even Sony!

The price is pretty good for a 32" HD-LCD too, the 32" LCD Sony would run you back another 400-800$. The main reason I purchased this TV was for gaming and DVDs. For my gaming set up I have an Xbox, PS2, and Gamecube, all with component cables so I can play in 480p, 720p and 1080I, although I've yet to play a 1080I game. One thing I dont like is how theres only 2 component hook-ups so I have to switch my Gamecube and PS2 depending on which I wanna play but hey, I cant live with that. The picture quality is just amazing when playing games in 480p. I see a huge diffrence in the graphics of games like Zelda, Resident Evil 4, Project Gotham racing 2, Halo 2 and the diffrence from 480i to 720p in X-men Legends is just astounding. The Speakers are pretty good for stock speakers, a huge improvment over my little 20" Toshiba. DVD's look equally amazing too, as ive said, a huge improvment over my old TV.

So all I can say is this is one great TV. If your in the market for a 32" HD LCD, I can't recommend it enough.

Strengths: This TV has an excellent picture and sound.
Weaknesses: None
Summary: This TV is probably the best LCD HDTV on the market today as far as picture quality is concerned. The sound quality I would rate a 4 out of 5. When I was looking at leading stores, every salesman reccommended this one along with some of the other major brands. I am very satisfied with the purchase price and quality of this TV.

Strengths: Looks good, sharp picture
Weaknesses: Does it really measure 32"? No PIP-doesn't have two tuners.
Summary: Overall, I do like the TV. The picture is sharp and very simple to use. The black borders of the TV makes it look a little unique and would match almost any decor. It is a great TV with a compact instruction book. I would recommend.

Strengths: Price, Features
Weaknesses: No major weakness
Summary: I search several websites to research and visited all the local retail stores- PC Richard, Best Buy, Circuit City, and 6th Avenue Electronics to compare the various products. I needed 32" to fit in a certain space so I decided on LCD. I ruled out all of the low cost LCD by off brands as their pictures just didn't stack up. I narrowed it down to Samsung, Sony and Magnavox. The Samsung had a great picture and features at a good price. I got mine for 1449.00 (PC Richard price matched buy.com. If you are watching HD or digital format pictures like Shark tale the picture and resolution are fantastic with great vivid colors and good blacks. The picture resolution is only limited by the type of broacast signal. If you have a poor analog TV broadcast, the picture will suffer slightly. This is mostly visible on fast motion same color on color scenes. However this is only because of the high resolution capability and goes unnoticed on low resolution TVs. Overall this is a great TV for the price and I would buy again. However, I would consider plasma if going over 32 inchs as they can provide a picture closer to CRT in large format.

Strengths: Many inputs, stylish, good price compared to other brands, nice picture
Weaknesses: Contrast not as good as I'd like it to be. I would also like to be able to disable the Air (cable) input, because when I cycle through inputs, this one comes up even though there's no connection
Summary: I've had this TV for about a month now. I am using a high definition DirecTV receiver with it. The picture is quite sharp, but you must stay at least 5 feet away - up close it tends to get blurry. I am also not completely satisfied with the brightness and contrast ratio - I am still adjusting it from time to time. I also turned off the Dynamic Contrast control, because when scenes changed from lighter to darker, or vice versa, there is a slight delay before the TV recoginzes the change, and you see a flicker as it adjust contrast - a bit annoying. I have to say that the picture from my panasonic EDTV plasma TV is better than from this display.

But given that, and my space limitations, this is a good set, and I would recommend it - just make sure you adjust the picture for your viewing.

2 Star ReviewSamsung LCD TV LN-R328W 32" - better called a monitor
Strengths: - Nice and bright picture - No hassle PC support
Weaknesses: - Low quality of plastic case - Low quality of sound - Warranty does not cover LCD panel (they avoid fixing it by inventing user damage)
Summary: I was impressed by picture quality on that TV and by great integration capabilities (input ports). I had it for 2 months and I started to notice dark spots on the LCD panel. I made about 20 calls to attempt fixing it under warranty just to hear them blame it on me or shipping for the physical damage. I used to be a big fan of Samsung but their products just need to be more reliable - I also had trouble with a Samsung washer not so long ago. Also pay attention to low quality of plastics used - the TV is very shaky on the provided stand - I would recommend a wall mount. Sound quality is so bad I would call this model a monitor. In fact it does look like a big PC monitor and not like a TV set. Nice speaker set is a must even for occasional music listeners as me.

My rating is 2 just because it has picture quality I loved so much. Otherwise it is a worst buys I’ve ever made.

Strengths: Excellent picture Excellent contrast ratio Sleek design
Weaknesses: Only one HDMI port If you do not have hdmi there is no digital audio port so you will be forced to use standard rca cables. Non HD picture is a little lacking
Summary: After agonizing over this lcd and the similarly priced sharp model I finally decided on the samsung because the depth of the picture made it stand out. The price on this lcd is also very competitive (lower) compared to sony, hitachi, etc. For any price point I think it would be hard to find a better picture.

2 Star ReviewExceptional picture quality, very poor reliability
Strengths: Excellent picture quality
Weaknesses: Only one HDMI input, need one for cablebox, one for DVD player, poor reliability
Summary: I looked at all the major brands, including Sony, JVC, and Sharp and this 32" LCD has the best picture. The picture quality is exceptional.

Unfortunately, the reliability is just not there, and I would not recommend buying Samsung. I bought the tv from Best Buy and on the 39th day the picture went very dark. I purhcased the 4 year extended warranty so set up an appt for them to come out and look at it. Within two days the picture was back to normal, so canceled the service call. Since then it has been flickering between modes of normal to very dark. I turned off the brightness sensor, still have same problem. I also have a Monster Power box that monitors voltage and the power is ok.

It is now the 50th day and the tv is very dark again, and ready to throw the $2000 boat anchor out the window. I have set up a second service call and anxiously awaiting to see if the main LCD bulb is burning out.

Would probably buy Sony or Sharp next time.

3 Star ReviewSamsung LN-R328W - Great TV with one major weakness
Strengths: Excellent picture and sound, very reliable, great for digital cable and DVDs.
Weaknesses: Completely dysfunctional on/off timer!
Summary: Overall, this TV has been great. However, I have it hooked up in my bedroom, and my wife and I decided we wanted to try to use it as an alarm clock (since it has an on/off timer, right?). Anyway, we programmed it to turn on at 5 AM, and it came on in Antenna mode on channel 3, despite the fact that both my cable box and DVD player are hooked up to component video. There is NOTHING hooked up to the antenna coaxial input. Unfortunately, the timer does not give the option of video source. It assumes you are using the antenna and only asks you what channel you want. How useless is this? With all this high tech gadgetry, don't you think the geniuses at Samsung would have figured out how to give you the choice of inputs when the TV goes on? VERY frustrating!
