TC-80N3 -- "WYPIWYG"
Strengths: All the useful functions you would want from a timer/remote controller
Weaknesses: No on/off switch, buttons placement isn't very intuitive, price
Summary: 2005-10-14 23:58:36 This is a must if you are into astrophotography or creative long-exposure photography. However, it simply is what-you-pay-is-what-you-get, there is nothing fancy here. As usual for all other Canon stuffs, this is not cheap. The placement of the control buttons is not intuitive and it takes some time to get used to. There is also no on/off switch, so it will continue to drain the battery unless you remove it when not using it. In summary, get the RS-80N3 instead and save yourself ~$100 if you just need a remote controller. Of course the word "remote" doesn't mean "cordless" here. You will have to pay an obscene price for that.

Canon Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3
Strengths: it works
Weaknesses: price, small screen, always on, very short cord, feels really cheap
Summary: so, it works. it fires the camera, the timer counts correctly. this isn't a very complicated device.
for what it does, especially considering the price, i wish they would have provided a better screen so they could put more information on the screen to make it more intuitive.
the cord length is a joke. at 2 feet long, this will be dangling from your camera a lot and hopefully not bending the jack on the camera. want a longer cord? thats easy, just another 70 bucks for an extension. outrageous.
and as for the build quality i'm very disappointed. taking it from the box it was already scratched from just the bubble wrap rubbing on it. it's made from all plastic. the main button feels like it could fall off any time and i'm afraid if i drop it it will shatter.

Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3
Strengths: Very easy to use with, nice interface.
Weaknesses: cable tend to be little short and not as sturdy
Summary: I wish canon can make a remote that is wireless, I ahve many canon cables, they tend to break around the connector, so a wireless one would be a great way to go since the cable is no longer the issue and can go further in distance as well.

Strengths: flexible, easy to set up. Great battery life.
Weaknesses: Timer button could be larger.
Summary: Kind of expensive, but would be difficult to match all the features: 4 modes, display and standard manual switch. The unit only interface with the N3 type connector. No on/off switch (the unit stays on forever until battery dies). Display is easy to see and controls to input setup are average.

Strengths: Multiple use, user friendly, long battery life, quality Canon build
Weaknesses: expensive, should be wireless
Summary: great remote control, very well built, multiple settings available; a bit tricky at start but overall easy to use after a few trials. Good cable length; would be astonishing product if wireless. A bit pricey unfortunately

Strengths: Great for use on a Lomo trinocular microscope and an EOS-10D.
Weaknesses: A little bit touchy on the trigger switch activation but seems to work fine otherwise.
Summary: Was looking for a regular remote, but this one gives the user several pluses: time lapse capability, bulb photos, and regular remote capability. Works great with my microscope, and looks like it would also do a fine job with a telescope.

Always on - who cares
Strengths: Gives you 100 hours to establish an aliby prior to detona... er... shutter release.
Weaknesses: All the functionality of a stopwatch at 10x the price. Canon seems to think their name has been dipped in gold.
Summary: You know the fact that it is always on when plugged in really doesn't matter; do you care that your digital wristwatch is always on?

Strengths: Enough function
Weaknesses: Pricy. Bottons are too small, almost impossible to handle with gloves on during whinter out-door shooting.
Summary: I preffer this one to be built with large bottons and bigger LCD. Overall, it's a good product. My friends recommended this one to me, I chose it after reading reviews.

Strengths: A lot of functions! it enables more than 30" or even hours of long time exposures. Custom Timer, Intervals etc... still a lot to discover
Weaknesses: Price!
Summary: If you want a steady shot, i highly recommend one of these shutter release. It saves a lot of time from the timer to avoid shake. It also has lots of functions and combinations, that you cannot do with your camera alone! Love it!~ Gonna use it for my Xmas lighting pics this year!

Strengths: Many uses, wasy to use, extra long timer
Weaknesses: Expensive, screen hard to read, buttons could be bigger
Summary: Excelent choice for thoes who do long exposures over the 30 seconds that most cameras max out at. Can also be used to do some time laps work with the interval timer function.

Strengths: multifunctional remote
Weaknesses: pricy
Summary: I like the timer function. You set the shutter speed, time interval, number of shot and let it do the rest of the work. I plan to use it for astrophotograph then I'll be able to stack image easily.
