Strengths: 1) Support: Got an question? Give Audio Technica a call and speak to Dave the audio pro. 2) Bang-for-the-Buck: The AT2020 quite simply outclasses anything available at this price.
Weaknesses: Not feature-rich, but it's obvious Audio Technica allocated costs toward delivering an affordable studio quality mic that isn't just another pretender.
Summary: Audio Technica is no stranger to those who demand quality audio products. and with the AT2020, they've just raised the price/performance bar for studio quality condensers.

_______________________________________________________________________

The AT2020 is a side-address condenser mic, with a cardioid polar pattern. The side address element helps add life to your recordings by capturing room ambiance, while the cardioid pickup pattern ensures a tight, focused recording, giving you precise control over how much or how little room ambiance you want. What it lacks in features, such as a bass roll-off filter or pre-attenuating pad, it more than makes up for in sound quality and innovative engineering.

High SPL handling, wide dynamic range, and an ultra clean signal are the hallmarks of the AT2002. But let's face it. This mic is dead sexy. You'll look good, you'll sound great, and you'll have enough scratch left over to pair it with a premium mogami XLR cable (for added sexiness.) Recommended.

Strengths: It seems well built and solid. Pretty flat response.
Weaknesses: no 10db roll-off, no on off switch
Summary: I use this with an ART mono preamp to record my classical guitar. My only regret so far is that I didn't get another microphone for some stereo ambience. The recordings come out clean and uncolored and compared to the ones I've listened to on the net the AT 2020 acquits itself very well against units often costing twice as much. This is very reasonably priced currently probably because Audio-Technica is coming out with a USB version which will cost considerably more. The AT 2020 at under $100 is a steal.

Strengths: Very nice sound, especially for the price
Weaknesses: Doesn't work with all XLR cables
Summary: I bought this on a recommendation from a friend, and while I had a bit of trouble at first, in the end it was well worth it. The XLR cable I had worked with other mics, including those that used the +48V, but just flatlined on this one. So it took a new XLR cable to get it working but is definitely worth the money.
