2 Star ReviewThis thing is cool, but customer support sux!
Strengths: Does everything in a single remote and can learn codes not in IR database. Fully customizable graphics, downloadable templates, controls all my "toys" (including some PC functions).
Weaknesses: Price is a bit steep, not intuitively obvious how to program some functions. Live update no longer supported if they drop your "authorized vendor".
Summary: 2006-11-04 08:09:36 The learning curve was a little steep, but once you get a few concepts down you can do anything. Color LCD interface is fantastic and you can import any graphics in several formats including animated GIFs.

Not sure how well it does with RF as all my remotes are IR based. The IR database is incredible and is only missing codes for an old remote controled Pioneer 6+1 audio cassette changer. I still have the remote so no problem. It has learned them and works.

Creating macros is another area that is not obvious, but I've been able to create thumbnails of my DVD covers that are loaded in a Sony NP-CX995 (400 disc capacity). I can put about 8 images per "page" and scroll through them until I find something I want or the DVD I'm looking for.

The unit can control X-10 modules (the codes are already in the database) with the help of an IR receiver.

In short, this may be the last remote you will need!

IMPORTANT: I bought my unit from an authorized dealer listed on their web page. URC changed their software so you have to get the link from your authorized dealer. They never told my vendor and then they dropped them from their authorized dealer list. So I can not get software that will do live update. If I want to check to see if anything new is out, I have to go to the site, register (every single time I want to check as my info is not retained) and download the software. I then have to unzip the file and check to see if it is a new version. This sucks!!!! If they can drop my authorized dealer that means they can drop any of them. Anyone could end up without live update support on their software.

Instead of the last remote I will ever need, it will be the last remote I ever get from URC. Because of this I dropped my rating from 5 stars to 2 stars.

1 Star ReviewDO NOT buy this piece of electronics from this sel ...
Strengths: Would have, could have been a great product.
Weaknesses: This unauthorized dealer is not able to provide me with the neccesary software updates from the URC company who makes this remote control. The name of the software is Remote Suite, and the seller has never got in touch with me despite numerous emails abo
Summary: DO NOT buy this piece of electronics from this seller unless you are prepared to not be able to receive software upgrades (posted often) by the company who makes the remote. THey will only provide it to authorized dealers, and this is not one of them.

Strengths: This is the best remote I've ever used. It does everything I wanted it to do, plus more...
Weaknesses: Must be programed by an installer/programmer. My systenm took about 10 hours to program
Summary: As a previous owner of many programmable remotes, the MX-3000 is worth every penny. It does everything I wanted and more...and does it so smothly.

I would recomend this remote to anybody who's looking for the perfect remote.

One note of caution...Be prepared to spend $300.00 - $ 400.00 for programing this to work correctly. My programming took 10 hours to complete, but the macros are extremely good and it does everything!

Please don't think that you can program this on you own.

Strengths: Awsome remote, just takes a while to figure out.
Weaknesses: learning curve and price
Summary: Best remote out there but it may take some time to program if your not a profesional. It took me a while to figure it out and the manual wasn't much help but with time, you should be able to figure it out. Just give yourself plenty of time to program it. Expensive but if you can afford it, buy it!

Strengths: Can control remotes through walls and doors ; can be made to be customized with one touch buttons that do everything ; channel icons, and other ease of use options. Great for entire family. Easy use
Weaknesses: No 2 way communication
Summary: I got my programmed by a custom installer - www.totalcontrolremotes.com and it came out GREAT. My wife and kids can now control the theater! I literally threw out the 7 remotes that I was using. Highly reccomended.
