Strengths: Ease of Use, Price, Functionality, Wow Factor!
Weaknesses: Once and a while the remote sets the wrong TV input or will shut off components you want on. If you finish a VCR tape, select rewind, then slect Watch a DVD, the remote shuts the VCR off.
Summary: Pros: Remote is awesome! Got them for $40. Replaced 5-6 remotes with one. Setup is easy is you know the model numbers for your equipment. Took all of 10 minutes online. The greatest testimony was the first time my wife used the remote without any explanation and said, "This remote rocks!", like music to my ears. We have a moderatewly complex sytem, and the remote does it all!
Cons: Sometimes when switching between functions, like Watching a DVD to Playing a VCR tape, the TV gets set to the wrong input AV1 instead of AV2. No biggie, just to the remote Help button, and it steps you through Yes/No questions until it fixes itself.

Strengths: Really universal, replacing numerous of remote controls in my house.
Weaknesses: Does't work my Liteon DVD recorder.
Summary: This remote is really amazing as it replaced a bunch of remote controls in my house. I got rid of those controls that always got lost or hidden somewhere when you need them the most. Saved me a ton of trouble. It works with almost all of my A/V units except a DVD recorder. It's great value. Highly recommend.

Good remote, bbut can be better
Strengths: one touch buttons
Weaknesses: can't preciosely get the right TV source if the TV is already on
Summary: A good remote with lot of pluses, back lit buttons are a plus. and LCD display is also a good feature. If the desired function can't start, the help button will ghetv you through. However,. if you are having your TV on, say watching a TV channel, and then you want to watch a dvd, and press watch dvd button, it will not be able to turn on the right sources on your TV.

Strengths: one-touch activity based controls, cool blue backlight, controls up to 12 devices, coated buttons, good button layout for Tivo, code learning sensor
Weaknesses: online programming can be confusing...especially if you need to make adjustments
Summary: I bought this remote to replace 3 others and to pick up backlighting for Tivo control. I decided to go with the 628 due to its button layout and price. Tivo users will find that the buttons are laid out in a logical format with the most common buttons located in the center of the remote. The buttons are also hard coated so the markings will not wear off over time. The initial online programming was fairly straight forward and pretty easy. However, trying to figure out what changes and/or adjustments to make to get the remote to function 100% can be a real pain. Overall, I am pleased with this remote and would purchase it again.

Harmony 628 Remote Control
Strengths: Attempts to Control almost any device.
Weaknesses: Can't remember the changes you enter.
Summary: The Harmony 628 could be a very good product, but it seems to have trouble remembering the changes that you tell it to make when it makes a mistake. The initial programing is quite complicated and the average user would have trouble programing this remote. If a person doesn't know the internet or have access to a computer with a internet connection then this remote can't be programed at all. I took the first remote back to the place of purchase and exchanged it because it couldn't remember and learn from it's mistakes like it is supposed too do. The second remote does the exact same thing. It only gets part of my devices turned on most of the time. Sometimes it will surprise me and get it right, but who wants a remote that only works half of the time. This device is far too expensive for that. At 100.00 it sould work like it says it does. This would be a fine device if it would just work the way it is supposed to.

Strengths: Fairly easy to setup; ease of use; customizable; price; will make your wife happy
Weaknesses: missing few hard buttons; detailed customization could be time consuming
Summary: This is a great product for the price. It replaces all your remotes from TV and receivers to fans, etc. Hard buttons could be assigned any button you want, as well as unlimited buttons on LCD. Vast online database of remotes to be replaced has the latest models, if not it is easy to teach it yourself. Basic setup takes about 20 min., and you need anywhere from an hour to half a day to completely set it up and tweak, depending from complexity of your system. But once set up, it works very well. If you see computer not for the first time, yu would be able to do it. Higly recommeded.

Strengths: Easy setup. Works perfectly.
Weaknesses: A few less buttons than the 659.
Summary: This is my third Harmony remote and as good as the 659 which is excellent. My wife thanks Harmony every day. It is so easy to use. I have used the remotes to set up many different home theater configurations and the Harmony is very adaptable in every setup. Absolutely perfect!!!

Strengths: Works with majority of electronics. Basic functions do as advertised
Weaknesses: Tweaking can be cumbersome. Screen too small for displaying advanced functions
Summary: For the basics of turning on all the proper devices and viewing, this device works very well. For advanced features, it can be done but is cumbersome on the web site. Buttons are small and hard to read display for older people.

Strengths: Truly univeral.
Programming is easy.
Activity buttons are great.
Remembers which components are on and off.
Simply awesome!
Weaknesses: None that I can think of.
Summary: This remote truly does it all. I just picked it up for $33 at tigerdirect, and it's the most worthwhile toy ever. My wife groaned when she saw yet another remote, but after she used it for the first time, she was completely sold. The programming is easy (if you follow the directions online), and you can easily use the console on your desktop to make fine tuning adjustments (change button assignments, add activities, etc). It knew ALL the commands of all my previous remotes for my 5 components, without me having to add anything. It remembers which components have been turned on and off, so if you're watching TV and go to press 'Watch a DVD' it doesn't try to turn on the same components again, but only turns on the ones which were off, and then resets all the inputs correctly. The buttons are clearly and well laid out, and the LCD screen is clear (and customizable - you can move your most popular commands to the top of the list). It only took me 30 minutes to setup (once the updated software was installed) - some people have said 3-4 hrs, and I just can't see it. I would reccommend this remote to anyone. Now the babysitters will actually be able to watch some TV once the kids go to bed. Lol... Mark
