Strengths: Sleek styling; awesome keyboard; nice fitting right-handed mouse; rechargable mouse
Weaknesses: Shaky wireless range; no bluetooth; ocassional missing keystrokes
Summary: I was looking to upgrade my keyboard/mouse setup on my desktop, and have always been a fan of Microsoft hardware products. I had recently purchased their Entertainment Desktop 7000, but didn't like it's unisex mouse (supports both left/right handed folks) and the keyboard was missing a number pad. I was surprised how much I missed having easy access to numbers!! As a result, I sold that one and picked up this one instead. Thus far, I am happy with my decision. I love the look of the keyboard! It's a sleek black, with a translucent border which I imagine is made to look like vista window borders. The rubber palm rest is perfect, and there are moveable rubber feet which allow for various height adjustment (top part high or bottom part high). There are a slew of programmable are preset buttons, and of course my covetted number pad! The media keypads work w/out any adjustments with itunes. The wireless connectivity is via a microsoft proprietary method, using a USB drive. I wish they stuck with bluetooth, as it had a greater range. I ocassionaly have connectivity issues with the keyboard, and it is only 5-feet away, separated by a desk. The keys will sometimes be sluggish, but I cannot track a reason why. It's working perfectly as I type this review.
The mouse feels awesome in my right hand. It has a handy rechargable base. The battery is a generic AAA rechargable one, and not proprietary, so a replacemnet shouldn't be a problem in the event it dies down the road. Note that the keyboard uses for suppled AA batteries, which are *not* rechargable. I've only had this keyboard for a couple of weeks, so cannot comment on their lifespan.
I will have to say that the mouse is somewhat noisy, and the left click sometimes emits a clicky noise. Kind of like a mouse squeak, i kid you not! For this reason, I am lowering the review to 4-stars.
