    8 Months
Strengths: 8 MP, able to take action shots without the digital lag, light and compact, great software
Weaknesses: May need to attach a flash unit in some indoor situations
Summary: You can read the specs for yourself but what surprised me about this camera is how easy it is to use and achieve great pictures. The software included is very complete and even comes with all the cables needed. I do recommend a 2 GB memory card....I ended up buying two 1 GB cards. I like the size and weight of the camera body because it reminds me of SLR cameras from the 70's and early 80's before the manufacturers supersized them. Lighter is better! The lens is high quality and the stabilizer really works, although if you are in a low light situation and your target is moving slightly your will still need to use a flash. The internal flash has a limited range so for weddings you will need to attach a Canon flash. The 580EX is the only one that will work with E-TTL II on this camera.

Strengths: Good battery life, great image quality, fast startup, lightweight, low noise, good price after rebate
Weaknesses: no spot-meter, little small for the EF 17-85 IS lens, LCD not viweable when taking picture, software OK only, plastic body
Summary: I brought the Eos Rebel XT kit with the EF-s 17-85mm 4-5.6 IS USM lens. Is was between the new EOS 30D ($2000) and the Rebel XT ($1175 - $100 rebate) with the same lens. I bought it for my new born to replace a Panasonic DCM Z5K and wanted the digital quality to make 8X10 prints and for online sharing of photos with relatives. I have used it for portraits and spring flowers including outdoor and nature. This camera is easy to use. The camera and lens functioned well. My 1GB CF Card gives 250 images with this camera. Small body but okay for my hand. I am happy with the picture quality. The included software is okay but I brought different software. Strengths: very good picture quality (8x10's, okay), Fast, reasonable price for D-SLR, Lightweight, good EOS lens. I will use this camera until a full frame D-SLR with higher pixels is a available at more reasonable price; it is a good idea to invest in a good lens for future Canon EOS digital camera body.

Strengths: Great pictures.
Weaknesses: Size is a little too small for a DSLR.
Summary: This camera has all the important features a serious amateur would want and then some. This camera is the closest to film you will get for the price and with all the advantages digital has to offer (technically speaking, a DSLR would have to be 12 megapixels to exactly match 35mm film quality). My only reservation is it's small size but that is a very minor complaint. With the Canon EFS 17-85mm it performs beautifully. By the way, don't believe all the critics that say megapixels aren't important and 6 megapixels are enough - that is not true. Even though most people are not printing large 8X10 or larger prints, many photos are indeed cropped and the more megapixel per photo there is the sharper the photo will remain. This is one area Canon seems to beat all of its competitors in this price range

Strengths: NA
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: Image quality, resolution, and color balance are the best in class. Small and compact comparing to 20D, but the performace is great! It is lighter too. This kit is a great choice for a starter like me.

Strengths: Small, light, and compact digital SLR. Great for vacations, hiking, etc. Mine has survived a 4 foot drop onto concrete, with no damage.
Weaknesses: Doesn't have self cleaning sensor
Summary: The camera can shoot ISO1600 with a reasonable amount of grain/noise. That means you can shoot indoors without flash, getting good candid shots without drawing attention to yourself. Naturally lit shots are also more pleasing to the eye.

The 8 megapixel sensor delivers plenty of resolution for post editing on a PC and printing in ginormous sizes. The Rebel XT starts up instantaneously, well, actually like 0.2 seconds.

Canon also did a good job by making the shutter have absolute priority over everything else. For example, if you are reviewing shots, and then see something you want to shoot. Just aim and hit the shutter button, and the Rebel XT will take the shot, no matter what mode you are in etc.

The Rebel XT kit comes with a wide angle zoom lens. This lens is great for taking pictures of large tables at dinner parties and large groups. Bundled with the kit is pretty good software, including a photo browser that allows you to assign star values to photos, and the ability to filter based on the star values later. But hey, you won't shoot bad pics, right?

The Rebel XT will satisfy pretty much all customers, and even the nit-pickers. You'll get great value when you buy the XT. If I had to do it all over, I would buy the Rebel XT again without hesitation.
