Strengths: Excellent value, good range, lots of features
Weaknesses: No mute button on charger plug, wimpy windshield mount
Summary: I previously owned a Bel RX65 Pro which is a few steps up the Bel product line from the 955. I needed another radar detector and didn't want to pay up for the RX65 again. So I discovered the 955 which has about 90% of the features of the RX65 at a significantly lower price. The only feature I really miss from the RX65 is the SmartPlug charger that has the mute button on the charger plug so it is very easily reached anytime. However, the SmartPlug charger can be purchased separately for the 955. Otherwise, the detection range seems almost, if not equally, as good as on the RX65 and detects all the various radar bands and frequencies that the RX65 does. Laser detection is identical as well. The only weakness is the somewhat flimsy windshield mount which uses 2 small suction cups to secure the mounting bracket. This is the same mount design used by all Bel detectors though. I just wish Bel would beef up the mount with larger suction cups or another stronger design. It's not a huge issue though as the suction cups have only become unstuck once or twice.
