Strengths: Decent directions and routing. Good voice quality. My wife is technically challenged, and she is able to use this without much coaching. Usable for geocaching, but not made for it.
Weaknesses: TomTom's web site is frustrating when searching to add voices and other things.
Summary: After reading on the Egg site that others didn't get a free map update, I was a bit leery about this purchase. But for $50, I took the chance. I'm very glad I did.
If you are having troubles with the maps, go to TomTom.com, support and download the latest software.
After that 18MB program is installed, let it connect to your TomTom, go to the menu bar, click on Tools, then "Use Latest Map Guarantee." Without being asked to buy anything, it said that there is a new map available and do I want to download it. Sure! It was an 850MB file and took about 40 minutes over my pretty fast DSL connection.
If your computer is set to sleep or hibernate after something less than two hours, either turn that off or move your mouse every 10 minutes. If your computer goes to sleep during the update to your TomTom, you could badly screw things up. I think that may have been a problem for some others, and they blamed the device and not their own setup.
Because of the functionality for this price, it gets 5 stars.
