Good product
Strengths: Easy installation, all required cables are included
Weaknesses: Form-factor can be a problem in some cases (see update)
Summary: 2006-08-30 11:13:38 I bought this product to use my old 160GB parallel ATA drive with new Dell Dimension 9100. I couldn't use standard "2nd hard drive" bay, because hard drive, if installed there, would be too close to side cover of computer case, and with extra space occupied by converter it was impossible to connect the cables. Luckily the Dimension 9100 has FlexBay, so I installed the PATA hard-drive there, and the rest of installation took only a minute. UPDATE (summer 2006): I'm not sure if this is a Converter's problem, but about one year after initial installation my computer started to "lose" the hard drive connected through the Converter (couple of times per month). I can see two possible reasons: higher than usual ambient air temperature (it was hot summer, but the temperature inside the computer was still below reasonable threshold) and the design/construction flaws - every time I opened the computer case and check connections "hard drive-Converter-cable", they were a bit loose. Recently I replaced the old IDE-drive with SATA-drive, so I don't use the Converter anymore (but I use old IDE-drive with external enclosure and have no problems with that drive so far, so, probably, the Converter was the source of the problem). Bottomline: I wouldn't use such converter as a permanent solution but it's good for temporary use.
