Maytag 15 cu. ft. Upright Freezer

This freezer is a big disappointment

Strengths: None

Weaknesses: Excessive frost buildup. Freezer burn.

Summary: We purchased this freezer in Sept. 2005 after much research. We wanted something energy efficient and this was the highest rated in the size we could use. Well it may be energy efficient but it almost immediately built up more frost than any freezer we've had and at this time - after less than 1 year - it has frost over an inch thick on the top shelf. It is inside the house, not near a heat source and this is a relatively cool climate so it's the freezer, not the environment. In addition it is causing freezer burn to foods which are in freezer-quality wrapping.

All in all we will never buy another Maytag product.

Maytag 15 cu. ft. Upright Freezer

Strengths: Space, Size, quick freezing.

Weaknesses: Manual defrost, Drain not accessible from bottom,needs to be defrosted too often due to overfrosting of shelves

Summary: At first I enjoyed the ease of use of the Freezer. But then at the first manual defrost began the nightmare. I was unable to get to the drain plug opening the opening part the faces the floor. and so when defrosting the floor became a lake overnight. And it needs a few defrosts per year due to overfrosting of the shelves. Overall I am mildly happy with this freezer.

Works Great!!!

Strengths: Larger Capacity than similarly sized competing models! Energy Star - VERY efficient!!

Weaknesses: None.

Summary: I purchased this freezer and it has performed flawlessly thus far. It has a Fast Freeze feature that runs the compressor continuously if you have a large amount of items that need to be frozen quickly. You just have to remember to turn it back to normal afterwards.

It is very well insulated and holds temperatures quite stable. Once the initial freezing is accomplished, the compressor only has to run a small amount to keep everything frozen.

Since this is a manual defrost freezer, the items should keep longer than an auto-defrost unit, but the drawback is I'll have to defrost it once a year.

Overall, this is an amazing value - especially when compared to other, slightly more expensive, freezers with similar dimensions but 3 or 4 cu. ft. less capacity that are sold as competing products.

Maytag 15 cu.ft.Upright Freezer

Strengths: This freezer has a lot of space inside, and takes up less space than a chest freezer

Weaknesses: NA

Summary: I originally began looking for a small chest freezer for our new home so that we might begin stocking up on bulk meats and other bulk freezer items to save money. Our family has grown considerably in the past couple of years, and the sales person pointed out that this upright takes up the same floor space as the smaller chest freezer, but has 3 times the storage space. It is very easy to arrange the shelves to organize the food to make it easy to find what you are looking for, and there are also shelves in the door for smaller items. I am very happy with this purchase.
