Strengths: Lowest price, and can burn all formats
Weaknesses: none found yet
Summary: Low low price ($89 including taxes and shipping) for external DVD burner. -R, +R, RW, CDs ... it burns them all. A must have! Instead of upgrading all of my computers, I bought just one of this and then plug it to the computer that needs to burn a DVD.

Strengths: The unit looks nice and installs pretty quickly.
Weaknesses: I can't get InCD to install on my laptop due some unclear software conflict. 2mb buffer instead of 8mb.
Summary: 2005-08-19 09:02:24 I have been hesitant to buy a DVD burner but this model seems to be a good blend of lots of features with a reasonable price. USB and firewire connectivity is really nice, esp for a lower priced unit. So far, I'm really enjoying the unit and haven't had any major problems or wasted lots of time trying to install it.

Weaknesses: nothing so far
Summary: With this DVD writer, you don't need to worry about type of media and you can finish your job very fast. The price is very compatitive with others. It's much more cheaper than other major brand's. However, I can trust it totally. It never failed to burn as far as I tried. If my friends want to buy DVD burner, I would recommend this one without any hesitation.

Strengths: easy to figure out - no crashing - fast and quiet! :)

Summary: My head was spinning when I was searching for a burner but then when I thought I'd have to "blindly" pick a one ... I came along this place. Believe it or not - the reviews REALLY helped me with making my decision. New Egg service was excellent - came right on time as promised. I've only had this burner for a few days now BUT I'd highly recommend a LG to anyone in the market for one. I'm impressed :)

Strengths: muliformat and 1394. Fast and reliable.
Weaknesses: N/a
Summary: Personally, LG was my favorite maker of optical reader/recorders. They never disappointed me.
I have burned over 50 cheap dvd+Rs and CDRs without any failures.
Copying DVD titles, doing backup, and making DVD titles was so successful.
To my happiness, it has NERO express. Power producer was also useful, I could make a DVD title from a wmv file.
In addition, before buying I never considered the 1394 interface, but dual interfaces of 1393 and USB 2.0 were so useful that I can save one USB port of my labtop.

Strengths: Very slim,Quiet,robust,fast and cost effective

Summary: 2005-08-21 18:45:33 I have a laptop with internal DVD burner.Even though its was stated a +/- RW I had some problem with some DVDs (i bought lots of different DVDs assuming that it works). Finally i decided to go for an internal writer but i realized that they are not as good as the external ones because of the constraints they have. I have gone through several brands and reviews and then decided to go with this one. After i got this one i almost burned about 50 DVDs.Interestingly not even a single DVD was damaged. the performace of the writer along with the software is really amazing. I have tried several DVDs( except dual layer) and it is compatible with every one. This drive is very quiet fast and slim. I realy liked it very much than what i expected before buying it. I really suggest go with this external burner than spending about $ 100 more for the internal burner when we are buying Laptop.
Interestingly this writer fits in one of my side pockets of Laptop bag.

Summary: I ordered this for burning movie back-ups with ridata 8X DVD+R.
I burned about 20 movie DVDs in 2-3 hours. No error.
Very satisfied with this.

Summary: I have been using this drive for two weeks. Its compatability is excellent. Burning DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW and DVD-RAM is flawless. The price for this external DVD-burner is pretty good. Great LG!

Strengths: Looks great, works consistently, nice price.
Weaknesses: Not really Mac compatible
Summary: I have been using this burner for about 6 months. It has worked great for me with both dual-layer and regular dvds. I have made about 200 dvd copies with it. My only complaint is it's apple compatibility. When I purchased it to use with my apple powerbook it was described as windows/mac compatible. When I received the product the setup and installation disk had no programs or drivers for macintosh and didn't work right away. I found software called "patchburn" which created an os 10 driver for it. Once I did this it worked great from the finder and everywhere else.

Strengths: Quiet, fast, stylish looking
Weaknesses: None (in my short experience
Summary: No complaints about this drive. Installation had no hitches. Comes with excellent software package if you get it retail - Nero Express package. If you're satisfied with this there is no need to go spend $50 on burning software.
Noise was minimal depending on what software is used - i found that DVDshrink and Nero burned more quietly than 1click dvd copy, but either way the noise never botehred me.
is the fastest external burner out there. i have made 10-12 dvd backups without a single hitch.

Strengths: Writes to all formats; speedy;
Weaknesses: Not particularly compact; some design quirks
Summary: I don't ever expect to use the DVD-RAM functionality, but it is nice to know that I can read and write any DVD recordable format in existence. The drive was easy to install and is very fast. I think this product is a very good deal. However, if you are interested in an external burner for portability purposes, this burner is not very compact and is rather heavy. Also, the on/off switch is located in the back of the enclosure and is pretty small, so I find myself having to lean over the drive each time I want to turn it on or off. However, this is a mild criticism of a good product.

Summary: I bought this DVD writer 3 days ago and so far it is working good. Softwares comes along with this writer is handy. You can do all basic functionalities. If you want to write more advanced features like copying copywrited DVD's, as per the software, you have to upgrade to their premium version.

Weaknesses: NA
Summary: Excellent for reading and writing CDs or reading DVDs, but I have not been able to get it to work on my AMD machine to burn DVDs at all. Which makes it a little pointless.
The Nero software which comes with it does not recognise it as a DVD drive - only a CD drive - and both CDBurnerXP and DeepBurner (downloaded from the web) recognise it as a DVD drive but fail to burn to it reporting various errors.
Nothing helpful on the LG Electronics website and even their instructions as to how to upgrade the firmware (which come with dire warnings as to what happens if you get it wrong) are themselves wrong.
Not impressed so far.
