Strengths: Good saw for the price
Weaknesses: little cheap in constuction
Summary: The first thing I noticed was it was made in China. I had already been burned on tools made in China so I started having my doubts about this saw. I plugged it in and tried it out. The saw cut the 2 x 4 with ease. I also started noticing the fit and finish of the saw, especially the base of the saw, and noticed the miter guage was starting to lift up on one side. On the DeWalt the gauge is screwed on to the base. The Hitachi seemed like it was glued on to the base. The clamp also looked cheap with cheap hard plastic knobs that if you tighten to hard you could probably snap them of. Overall its a good saw for the price but still needs some work.

Strengths: Sturdy, powerful, 5-year warranty, straight and clean cuts
Weaknesses: Dust collection
Summary: This saw is powerful and cuts very well. The miter gauge is heavy duty and well marked. The miter adjustment is easy to use. The saw comes with an extended fence and hold-down clamp which are valuable features and not included with many comparably priced saws. When first using the saw, I immediately noticed that the dust collection system does not seem to work very well. I have heard some complaints about the bevel gauge sticker peeling off but I have not had that problem with my saw. In fact, the gauge looks very good and solidly on the saw. Out of the box, my miter adjustment handle screw was bent a little I bent it back into position. Also, I was missing a 10 mm wrench. I called Hitachi customer service and they were very pleasant and said they would just send me a new wrench - I was impressed. Overall, I am pleased with the value of my Hitachi miter saw at the relatively low price I paid. I have purchased another to give to my father-in-law to replace his damaged Craftsman.

Strengths: Very basic, solid saw
Weaknesses: A little noisy
Summary: This is a solid, no frills saw that gets the job done. No laser or digital LCD as with other Hitachi saws, but it solidly cuts what it's supposed to. It's a bit on the noisy side. I would buy it again.

Strengths: Price Power Brand
Weaknesses: Price is low but should not be that far off the same model with a Laser. Inablility to Cut a 4X4
Summary: I have been searching for a miter saw for aprox 6 months since I started my deck. I choose Hitachi due to reviews through out the web. I have finished the deck and now finaly got the saw I wish I had when I started. But thats ok. I just got done using this saw with 2x4 lumber to build a garage full of shelfs and cabinents. It has the power to not stop through many cuts. I have read a lot of reviews for the blade I did not buy a new one to start with because I tried this saw out and the bade worked fine with my lumber. Clean cuts. I will however be getting a nicer blade when I start to work on my molding for my office. This saw is good for frequent home use. I would not like to use this for a commercial project due to its size and lack of laser and slide. I would however use a 12in Hitachi or Dewalt with those Features. I just wish the price gap between this and the 10in with laser.

Strengths: 15 Amp Motor, Two Piece Fence, Accurate out of the box, Fit and Finish, 5 Year Warranty
Weaknesses: No left or right stock supports (accessory), Stamped Motor/Head assembly, Bent Blade Made In China
Summary: 2007-03-31 21:46:49 First off let me say I'm a 30 year remodeling contractor and my "Review" on this saw is based on use in the field.

I was looking for a good back-up trim saw and happened to stumble across this model at Amazon for a decent price[$70] about 3 months ago. Since then I've put it threw some use on trim, framing and even did a re-deck with it. Heres my take on this saw.

This saw has had no problems with cutting anything I used it for, including some cherry 1x stock. Having the proper saw blade for the material you want to cut is the most important aspect for any saws performance.

All miters and straight cuts were accurate, not quite as nice as my old Hitachi CF8B, but fine for standard sized trim.

One of the most important things I look for on a miter saw is a split fence (which the saw has). A lot of miter saws in this class have 1 piece fences. I have another miter saw here that has a 1 piece fence and after about 6 years of use the left and right side fences were not in-line with each other. Had to have the local machine shop mill fence to a "straight" line. The 2 piece fence eliminates this this problem.

I am impressed by the thought that went into the saw design, but was disappointed in the Gear Case/Motor Head Assembly (Part # 108 in the Owners Manual). It looks to be two stamped pieces of metal put together and looks like it could be easily damaged if not careful. Being that this head assembly has the motor mounted to it I find myself being careful not to cut any material to quickly lest I jam the blade and "torque" the saw. I'm pretty sure the head assembly would crack or at least bend something that would effect the saws accuracy.

There are a few bad points, one of them being the four screws you need to remove to change the blade. No left and right table extensions, or "holders" as Hitachi calls them. There an accessory (Hitachi Part # 322956 comes with both left and right "holders" plus a material stop). These should be included with the saw. The blade that came with the saw had a slight wobble to it, not a huge deal (24 carbide tooth blade)

All in all a decent saw if you can find it for a good price.

Strengths: Does what a compound miter saw suppose to do
Weaknesses: noise
Summary: This is my first compound miter saw at a great price ($75). I find it safe and easy to use for beginner. The angle cuts are right on. Highly Recommended.
