The size and weight of the computer is nice. Beyon ...
Strengths: Size, Weight, battery life if properly managed.
Weaknesses: VERY slow for a 933 Mhz computer. NEC Support. Display is fair. User configurable buttons have very limited choices.
Summary: The size and weight of the computer is nice. Beyond that, I don't have much nice to say about it and I would not buy it again. My old 500 Mhz dell laptop blows this thing away for speed. The buttons are user configurable, but the choices are very limited.
I won't bore you with the details, but NEC tech support is the worst I have ever dealt with. Amazingly inept. I had to exchange the original unit because they were way too incompetent to figure out the problem and kept trying to blame it on me.
The handwrighting software is amazing in some respects, but falls far short in others. Its inability to recognize capital letters for example. It shouldn't be so hard - If it starts a sentence, it is capitalized. Other times it will run two words together to form some nonsense word. Words like corner come out comer. Is that even a word? Don't get me wrong the software is overall very good. It's just amazing that so many obvious defects were not fixed, like the capitalization.
The voice recognition is next to worthless.
With a little more work it could have been a great unit. It's just too bad NEC didn't take the time to fully develop it to its full potential. Maybe the Gateway unit is better. I have friends with the Compaq and they are happy with them, but I have no personal experience with it.
